Andover and Moon cary the same seatbelts so for the sake of simplicity i will just refer to mooneyes. So Mooneyes offers two different types of seatbelts. One bolts right into the floor and requires the purchase of a special plate, these belts are 78 dolars apeice with the plate, but they look like a modern airplane buckle with sort of a brushed aluminum finish. Now Mooneyes also offers 34 dollar seatbelt that hooks onto an eyebolt wich is in turn bolted to the floor and already comes with a plate, this 34 dollar belt also has a chrome airplane style buckle that looks alot better than the 78 dollar belt. So why the price difference? I like the $34 eye-bolt belt, but is one really safer than the other? I like the look of the chrome buckle, but i dont want a seatbelt that wont do it's job. would moon (or andover) sell an inferior seatbelt?
either one will work im sure the one that is cheaper will do the job just as good. if you do use the eye type make sure it has a welded eye.
I know you didnt ask for links, but you could try here. http://store.yahoo.net/wescoperformance/seatbelts.html
I bought my belts from Andover. They are DOT approved, came with full directions-including minimal spacing distances and the SS buckles appear to be very good quality. Good price, too. Mine bolt directly to the floor/cross member so I can't comment on your attachment plan, but i do like the belts.
Tim, You've probably already seen all of these belts, but Andover does have the chrome aviator style latch, for less than the Mooneyes price you quoted: http://www.andoauto.com/aviator.htm I've got the direct anchor version installed front and rear in my shoebox, and have been real happy with quality and ease of install. I also used their reinforcement plates for $25 a pair. I can't speak to whether the eyebolt or direct anchor is any safer, but I did want to point out that you could get the look you wanted for less money. There's probably even cheaper places on line if you look hard enough. -murph
I am using the aircraft style buckle from Julianos. The quality is great. The price is about average, $30.00 per person. This does not include the plates for the floor. I am not sure on the cost of those. I did not buy them as I bolted mine straight trough the tubing that I used to build the floor structure out of.
you can also get that style from JC Whitney for about $20 a set. They also have a shoulder belt with that style latch...I've had 'em for about 5 years now.
This is an old J.C. Whitney set that I put on every time I get in. The set I have for my next project, 34 pickup, is RCI from Tommy Johnson Motorsports, belt, shoulder and sub. I've been in a few accidents and am a firm believer that the tighter you're in, the better you are. The 57 wagon is the last time I didn't buckle up.
I am going with some snappin turtle ones, they have the most color choices that I have seen. I think they are the aircraft latch you are talkin about. Here is a link. Hope I could help. http://www.snappinturtle.com/
