What's The Temp in Your Garage?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by stan55, Jul 4, 2005.

  1. This is for you wusses that were complaining this past winter about how cold it was in your garage? I can't hardly hang on to the tools. In case you can't read it that thermometer is pushing 107 F

You got me by a little, today was around 95 with a heat index of 105 (thats measured in the shade), do not have a temp gage but the afternoon sun is on the front of my garage and I know it has to be between the 95 and 105. I have a fans (mounted chest high) blowing hard to make it bearable..... plus a lot of rags to wipe the sweat out of my eyes.....

either way, its hotter then I care for..... I keep telling myself I will put AC/heat in there but just never want to spend the money (it could go to the hotrod project)

Our shop is around 85*....we have fans, but if anyone is welding the fans get turned off so they don't effect the gases... I'd say under my hood it's around 100

  13. Scooter, you must have better insulation. They don't put shit in these new houses anymore. I need to blow some in the attic over the garage and that would help. I have also put styrofoam on the back side of the garage door and that helps a little.

  14. its been so fricken hot, the devil actually helped me pull the seat out of my 'A'

  15. At least a cheap fan offers some improved comfort in AZ in summer. In sub-zero Chgo. winter weather an electric radiant heater has no effect at all.

  16. Yeah Stan-But thats a DRY HEAT..........:D we get close to that here at times, with a min 60-95% humidity- you can feel the sweat beads rollin down the butt crack at a fast pace!

Don't know the meaning of "dry-heat" in Florida:D. Today it cooled down to 93 in the shop after I opened the garage door and got the intake/exhaust fans kicking. At least the humidity was only 80-90%. I'm still real happy to have a shop though, I'm not complaining

  19. Yes, I have been there and done that back east. I will be moving to NE Tennessee in 2 years and boy am I looking forward to it. Even turning on a fan here is like putting a fan in front of a fire, it just moves the hot air. If you have some humidity, it will cool a little.

Livin' in the midwest means I get to sweat it out. No "dry heat" here. It was about 90-91F today....with heat index...it had to be pushing high 90s and low hunnerds. No climate control in my garage either...so I was swimming in the garage while wrenchin' on the car and bike today.

Used to have a 20X40 garage at the old house that got sun all day..
No insulation in the roof, hotter than 40 hells in the summer..
Put a little sprinkler on top of the roof one day,ran the hose down, hooked it
up,and let the water run slow for a couple of hours..
I swear it cooled down noticeably after an hour or so..
Screw the water bill..at least I wasn't rusting my car down from my sweat
    near as bad as before..
Sucks to lean over bare metal bare armed and see rusty spots the next
    day...

Good timing.... I turned on my ac to the garage for the first time today. I spent the long weekend installing a two ton unit for my garage.
