I Need An 8BA Engine Block

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevywagonman, Mar 23, 2012.

  1. I just picked up my block and crank from the machine shop. Verdict is I got a good crank but a junk block. I know that s***ch pins could correct most of what ails this motor. However it has 2 problems.

1 One of the cracks is in the thin side of the intake port.

2 It has been welded and brazed on before.

?I have had several engine machinists look at it. One of them specializes in A and T motors. They all say the same thing. Get another block.

Anyone out there able to give me a hand?

    Thanks!

    Mike:cool:

I know this is a stretch, given your location, but Rick Whetsel in Greenfield, Indiana has quite an inventory of blocks and engines. He runs Whetsel Automotive and specializes in rebuilding Flatheads. His phone is 317-462-9461.

Update- I was block sanding the top decks, looks to be a crack in the p***age below the normal crack, looks like it go's to the cylinder or in that direction. I can't ask anything for it now, freebie 57 if you want to mess with pinning & sleeve. If nobody want's it then s**** next weekend.

  5. I would be interested in the block. I don't realy need the crank but lets wait and see. E-Mail me your address so I can check yahoo maps.

  6. Guy's please dont s**** the blocks, if either of you were closer I would at least offer you some beer money for them as I need blocks for mock up. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use them and be grateful. Put a fair price on them or freebie them and post in the cl***ified before you s**** them, just a friendly suggestion, TR

i am having a hard time picturing your block issue from your description. it don't sound fatal if i am thinking right. i have had good luck with welding, not mine, i don't know **** about welding but i am lucky to have a buddy who is an expert welder and has done lots of cast iron welding. it is an art in my opinion. maybe if you could post a good picture of the crack and what has been done to it that would help.
