A car show in Phoenix you need to go to...

Hi gang,

My good buddy ( Well, damn near adopted dad!) Ron Olmstead is responsible for his church's yearly car show. Now I have to say that usually when some one says "church" and "car show" in the same breath, I'm out. But this one is different! See, Ron is a 55 year veteran of the Phoenix car scene and knows EVERYBODY around here. No kidding! About five years ago he invited "just a few friends with '32 Fords" to a "little get together" and we ended up with 105 deuces from five states!

With this said, his church show at Bethany Bible Church (northwest corner of Bethany Home rd. and 7th ave. in Phoenix) routinely eclipses 300 cars from all over the state. It is well worth coming to. This years get together is on Saturday, April 7, and starts fairly early. I will jump back on in the next couple of days and post all of the particulars for you guys. I guess this will serve as a "save the date" for now.

 

Maybe by some slim chance we'll be closed that Saturday & I can make it to that one.

No, I just used that as an example! This show is open to all vehicles, and you can't believe the different things that show up... There is always a bunch of br*** era electric cars for instance that I never see at any other event around town. Always tons of street rods/hot rods too. Like I said, the man knows everybody!

Trust me on this one! I usually avoid church car shows like, well, I guess churches!!! I get too close and I have a real worry of bursting into flames!! For the first couple of years that Ron ran this, I made every excuse not to go that I could. Two years ago he took me aside and with his arm gently but forcefully around my neck "suggested" I be there... What a great suprise!!! I finally have a few moments to find some pictures of last years gig.

 

These arn't the greatest pictures of this event, but it will give an idea of the cross section of stuff that shows. I can't believe I don't have pictures of the br*** era electric cars that show, but when I went back through and looked, I had shot mostly detail shots of louver customer cars for business purposes. Like I said, last year over three hundred cars...

 

Weeeeellllllllll.... But I bet *****in' Honda 70s would be more than welcome!!!

been there and done that!!!!! Yes it was fun and the food was great, no judging just show and shine or dirty as it may be. Won't be in town this year but all should go. They do ask for donations, but you would spend more on food at most shows. My birthday but will be in Aussie land.

 

Thank you Matt for highlighting my shame!!! So many years of daily driving a full on nuts hot rod and I'm reduced to driving a low milage V8 Maverick for a bit... Workin' on the Plym so I can get my "street cred" back, I promise! How's that garge bound Vicky comin'?! Wink!

 

You think thats funny, photoshop my daily in there. It's comin' its comin', the steels in the back and the floors almost knocked out. I'm tryin' to have the body on for good by my B day (good old Earth Day).

 

This show is always a good time and as has been said, some rarely seen machines come out for it.

Also, later in the evening there is the Haifley Bros. open house and barbeque. Come on over and eat some weiners!

Located 1 block behind (south of) the Auto Zone on McDowell between 20th and 24th streets.

Hot rods, motor bikes and tasty meat!

Been hoping to bump this one back up to the top. Did I mention this deal is free AND they feed ya? Did I mention that last year there was a vintage top fuel Digger Cackled in the parking lot? Did I mention that there was a BMX trick rider team there last year so the kids were kept happy? Is any of this sounding a little like tieing a pork chop around the ugly kids neck to get the dogs to play with it? Oh, it starts at 7:00AM...

 

besides it being a great car show that keeps growing every year---they ask for food to be donated and they will take the food donations to the House of Refuge in Sunnyslope.

so put a big smile on Rons face and bring a couple of bags of food to the show!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be a fun time and a nice place to see alot of friends-------

Chip...I remember you coming back from Tucson with the Plymouth and almost catch'in it fire...Sorry I can't make the show...sounds like a goodtime...but ya never know when I might just show up again. You guys have fun and post some pics...

That is a great car show I was there two years ago. Hopefully I can show up this Saturday do not no yet.
