Just wanted to post about my car fire, that cost me my car after billetproof in florida NO ONE was injured...i was the only one in the car, and i got out right before the fire started.
the short story is : as i was crossing the howard franklin bridge in tampa coming home from the billetproof show, i was smelling a burning smell/
as i was pulling over to see what it was i started seeing smoke. as i got out of the car, the fire started in the area behind the back seat.

i had an extiguisher, but it was empty! an actually, may not have done much good against the inferno (see pics below). she burned for about 15 minutes before the FD got there...and by then it was pretty much said and done.
I surrendered my ***le and left her for s****....

I am lucky that i was able to go home and kiss my wife and kids goodnight cuz if i had waited about 30 more seconds to pull over, i would have been on fire trying to drive.

****s i lost the car, but lucky to be alive.
please enjoy the pics below, and i will continue to use this resource to help me build my next project! pics of that coming soon!

That is really bad. I used to carry a fire extinquisher mounted on the kick panel of my 27 roadster but people kept stealing them. I would come out of a restaurant or store and there would be an empty bracket staring at me.

I actually got to use mine one time, a guy threw a cigarette out his truck window and it landed in the bed. I was driving my roadster and saw him standing there staring at his bed on fire. I did a U turn and put it out and then he had to pull forward because the dry gr*** under his truck was on fire too.

I shoved one behind the p***enger seat of Dan's rpu and I guess I am going to have to figure a way to put one in the 27 and theft proof it.

On the way home from BP there was another car in the northbound lanes or I 75 surrounded by burned gr*** and fire trucks. It wasn't this Olds but a newer car.

Great that you got out . Maybe you should have had it towed to a lot of your chosing , where you could strip the good parts( V.I.N. plaque, trim, bumpers, & under the hood) then cut it up(so you could keep the ***le) & sell for s****. I bet you have a fire extinguisher which works in the next one, THAT is a lesson to us all.Even if your ride never catches on fire, you can help some one else.

First let me say how sorry I am about your car. Also glad no one was hurt.. I have read storys of cars catching on fire caused by hardning of the rubber fuel lines. Rubber hose disintegrating from using ethanol blended gas. I myself had a close call just last friday at a car show .I opend the hood of my 52 f1 ford and a fellow was looking at it and brought it to my attention .the hose is less than 6 months old and hard as a rock and cracked to hell. I am so glad he saw it. every one should be aware of this problem caused by ethanol in the gas. Its not Good for rubber parts...BETTER CHECK YOURS

I had lost one that way too.

Seen it on the show room floor and my friends dad bought if new. Gave it to his son, he sold it to his my other friends sister, then I got it from her.

Worked on it for a week got her just the way I dreamed of and took her for a drive.

Burned to the ground that after noon.

So sorry to see anybody go though that.

I've built many more sense then. Mike

Really sorry to hear about this. Glad you are ok, of course. Any thoughts on what might have started the fire? I looked over my photos from Billetproof to see if I had a good pre-disaster photo to send you - to help remember the better part of that day - but I didn't. Hope someone else can help out with some pix. Gary
