Yep, if you ever trigger a dry fire extinguisher you may as well empty it then and there as once they are triggered they leak down in a few days.

I had to break the kids in auto shop from setting them off so they would work when there was a real fire.

Sad to see that Olds burned up like that and it looked like a hell of a hot fire.

My apologies. I didn't mean to be an *** about it. I give you Props for carrying one at all when most people cruising on the road don't. Again sorry for your loss. I'm sure they'll be a kooler ride down the road for ya.

A very sad deal, so sorry for your misfortune, but life & limb are whats important & irreplaceable! You've built one, your previous build will make your next one easier and better! Be glad you are safe & well, and not having to heal before you can start looking for that new project!

I witnessed a guys car burn up once too, ...while he rummaged thru the trunk looking for his extinguisher! By the time he found it, it was too late. So, not only is having one [& one that works] an issue, having it bolted down so you know exactly where it is, is critical too. When you need that ****er, you need it right now!

Holy Cow Man! I almost got sick looking at the pics of your Olds on fire. I'm glad you made it out alive and in one piece. The Big Guy was lookin' out for you that day. Nothing worse than a car fire that you can't put out, nothing. Hope you get another car soon and put this tragic event behind you..

It wasn't your time, it was your car's. It's a bummer, but I would like to think that there is another car out there waiting just for you.

Did you figure out what the original cause of the fire was or is it too far gone to tell?

Man I just got back from a cruise (not to rub it in) but the first thing I did was grab the fire extinguisher out of the boat and now I'm gonna do a checklist on my lines.

thanks for the kind words ! i figure the driveshaft was rubbing on the floor from the car riding lowered (had airbags), and i didnt hear it s****ing or anything....i first thought it may have been an electrical fire....but then realized in hindsight that me cutting out holes for the upper rear control arms allowed the floor to go all the way down and let the driveshaft rub on it...

as for insurance, she was insured, but i didnt have comprehensive....just basic insurance..

i thought about trying to save her but the damage was so bad, its prolly better (and cheaper) to start over from scratch...
ill post a pic of my new project later on...i had bought it earlier in the year...and i need some ideas to replace my 53....

glad to see there is a sense of brotherhood here a**** us...i am comforted that i can rely on insight, ***istance and kind words to help me get through this ordeal.

****s man but at least you can tell the tale.

My coupe never goes anywhere without an extinguisher. You just reminded me to check it for full charge!

Sorry for your loss Guy. I lost a 56 510 chevy to a fire so know how you are feeling. I carry a 5 pounder dry chemical in the current ride. I have used it several times on other cars on the side of the road & have saved them all from total loss. I have even had ins companys pay to get it refilled after I used it. EVERYONE needs to cary a fire ext. As big of one as you have room for. Mine is in the floorboard behind the drivers seat. I get it properly checked & refilled if needed at least every 6 months. Off my soap box now & back to the regularly scheduled programing!!

Sorry for your loss, but glad you're ok.

Time to check your fire extinguishers, folks! And if you don't have one in the cabin, get one.
