I just picked up this 1950 mercury from hamber joeb1934. Me and my dad went down last weekend to get her. Originally we were going to parts her out, but I'm now entertaining the idea of building her!!! Joe had bought it for the back window and didn't need the rest. Well parts of the merc look like they sat in the ocean. I've never seen a merc rot the way this one did. The trunk floor is gone but from the back seat forward it doesn't have alot of rot. Then the front grill surround is rotted, but the fenders aren't too bad. Also the hood has bad rot to were the back hood support rotted off the hood. The trunk lid is also rotted pretty bad. So what do you guys think? Should I build her? I know I'm crary, but I guess I have a soft spot for mercurys.I'll try and take more pictures when I get a chance. It does have a clear ***le. I'd like to thank Joe and his dad for all there help, and thank my dad for all his help.

  3. Personaly I wouldn't build it. And I love Mercs. But what the hell, how much time and skill you have?

Well I have a lead on a pretty solid body. I thought of making one car out of two.

I think he just cut it not too long ago. I hauled it about 50 miles. Also like I said I may get that other body and make one out of two.

I remember that Steve Stanford did a drawing of Mercury done in a "1932 Ford B-400" way. Maybe that is the direction for your car?

Would a 49-54 Chevy Stationwagon back half somehow fit on that?

  17. If you have dry storage, I would stash it and think about it. Over the last 4 years of owning mine I've come across parts. I'd do a 2 door conversion on that one too... HARDTOP. :)

That should do it. Guys on here have started with a whole lot less and if that lead doesn't work out it could be a Mercury Ute with a bit of fabrication.

Wow! By Your description of everything that remains solid and usable on it, I sure would like to see You make something nice out of it.
Maybe there´s a rotted/stripped/ beat-up 2dr parts car with a decent roof, bridge panel and decklid left somewhere...? Skills/time/resources permitting, this could be a pretty good one to complement something like that.
