my stock fuel tube is in the trunk, had a cap with a hole in it to use as a vent... smells like gas inside the car....i found the stock cap witch is a vented cap, what i mean that it draws air in, but doesnt release it... will this work? i havent tried it out yet, if i use one of the roll over vents and add it to the fill tube and run it to the outside.. it has the same one way valve as the cap does so iam not doing any good going that route, may be use the vent and go with a non vented cap, it would draw outside air

  2. I used a gas door and housing complete and mounted the door in the trunk side upholstery panel and dropped the drain hose out past the floor. No more problem. Wish I could remember what the donner car was. Something mid 70's with a flat door. I actually have photos somewhere. Will keep looking for them.

I had to do the same thing and vent a small plastic tube out the bottom, that I drilled and fitted to the filler tube so it would vent and not try to implode my tank. I went thru 3 electic fuel pumps and 1 manual one till I figured it out. My gas cap was vented but wasn`t enough. I haven`t had any problems since.

cool thanks, what i need to know, will the stock cap work without and issues, as it draws air in only...will it build up pressure....i have been told to use a roll over vent, but doesnt it just pull air in as well? it has a one way ck valve to...

  6. Well the old photo's seem to be in a real safe place. However being the Car is still here and in a million pieces I just took you a few new ones. What's missing for now is the door but if you just think Body panel with the flip door you have it. I actually cut the section out of the Quarter panel and fastened it to the back side of the upholstery panel in the trunk. What I did is cut the stock Merc fill tube off at the tank end so I could use the stock O-Ring seal. A couple exhaust U bends and the gas cap end that went with the new door. It has a ring with 4 screws welded to it stock. The black piece is plastic and has the drain hose/vent hose so you don't have the mess in the trunk. It also pulls the fumes out while driving, you know, the old road draft treatment. I took an old Round floor shift boot and ring, cut the center hole in it larger to fit the new fill tube and screwed it to the floor to seal things up. Works well for me and have done this style many times over the years. Hope this helps.
