In 1993 a little indie movie came out called Dazed and Confused. It was a coming of age movie that didnt garner too much attention in the movie world but soon became a cult cl***ic. The importance of the Friday nights translated well in this movie for anyone growing up in a small town and it has been one of my favorites for years. So when I first moved to Austin and saw the burger hop used in the movie was in my neighborhood I knew I was home. One of the most iconic scenes from the movie was an aerial shot of Top Notch burger with cars parked at the menu booths. This was all very appealing imagery for a young gearhead and still captures my attention when I catch it on TV. Luckily for me The Strugglers host a great car show and this year they had their first ever Blessing of the Rides which had an amazing turn out. Here are a few shots I took yesterday of some of the cars that made it out to the show. Im still shooting 35mm and playing with some settings for different looks. I found some VERY expired color film that I decided to shoot to get that early color film effect as well as my B&W standby. I would like to thank The Strugglers for organizing such a great show and Top Notch for hosting the event, it was a blast. S****
Good photos, thanks for posting them. It was a good turn out last night and the bands were good too. You didn't mention it but the food at Top Notch also happens to be good, their homemade fried chicken really is homemade. Any hot rodder coming to Austin for the Roundup or any other reason should put it on their list of places to eat. They're gonna be showing Dazed and Confused there in April and I expect the turn out will be good for the movie. Whole bunch of future stars were in that movie but I gotta admit that for me watching the movie makes me feel nostalgic for the way things used to be here. Events like the one last night help to bring the best of the past into the present and it is great. Thanks to the Strugglers for putting it on.
Great shots. Looks like the place was packed too !! That movie took place in the time frame when I grew up so it rings home with me. Great sound track too. There were quite a few famous faces in it before they were famous.
Great photography as always! I really dig the color effect of the expired film.. Your threads never cease to amaze me. I always end up saving each one of your pictures. "Dazed and Confused" is one of my favorite movies of all time. My favorite car in that movie was the black short-wide C10 (for self-explanatory reasons.. ) which had a great scene in the beginning of the movie.
Very cool pics, Jared! I love that place! The Strugglers and the Meatheads are both doing some cool stuff around here.
