I need the bearing to center the steering shaft what to use can i put a regular temkin type in there? Thanks
My colum still has the race or bearing in it still it spins freely does that bubber piece ride on that?
I have the solid rubber ones from Mac's, now 5 years later it's making some noise. Mac's offers ones with brass bearings inside. Which might have not made noise.
If your column has a bearing in it, which it appears to have in the picture, somebody has added it. It looks like a later model column bearing, maybe you just need the plastic or metal cone that fits snuggly over the shaft and engages the tin race on the bearing. You also need a pre-load spring that goes between the steering wheel hub and the cone gizmo. I used to get the cones and bearings at the Ford dealer, probably need to get them from an early Mustang place now-a-days. Added a couple of pictures from a Mustang place.
I had no tube so I made a column,1 1'4" roll bar tube. Tractor Supply has a flanged retainer bearing 3/4" inside I used. Restored my buddy's 39 truck, did the same thing, a few tacks with a mig to hold it. can squirt some oil in there $2.95 .
