2 link with a diagonal bar to locate the rearend... upper bag mount. reinforced the subframe also... rear done. front. normal stuff... sounded like fun to mount the compressors and valves to the air tank... so I did. mounted in the trunk. done. tons of detail pics on Facebook.. Stayed tuned for step 2... Chop.
That diagonal link would work better with rod ends. The bushings will tend to bind as the suspension tries to articulate. Then again the're basically ladder bars and probably won't have much sway to speak of anyways.
Also, if they aren't already, you may want to box those front lower control arms as the shock mounts are going to work on those things over time.
"That diagonal link would work better with rod ends. The bushings will tend to bind as the suspension tries to articulate." you'd think so.... but its fine. I've got lots of miles on these set ups and they work great. "Also, if they aren't already, you may want to box those front lower control arms as the shock mounts are going to work on those things over time." Its gusseted. Thanks for the concern.
its a regular 5 gallon tank you can get anywhere. I welded the air valve mounts to the tank. have the tank hydrostatic tested if you weld to one.
Looks rather good. Love the rail to rail bridge with the reinforcment. Is it your design? Also, are the trailin arms pivoted to the stock fwd leaf mount?
ya reckon?! lol he's still deciding... I think he's going with steelies and wide whites. he was gonna go with wires... then supremes... even Radirs at one time!
Oy vay, more cars on the ground. I love that style Bird and you did nice work but a static drop of a few inches would have made the car.
This makes it much better. Mad props. On a note. i was sure that those wheels were just temp rollers.
ummmm round? lol I'll let ya know once he buys em. Whatever it was we figured was 27in diameter... that's all I needed to set up the suspension..
Did you build those trailing arms? I am courious that the two arms cant move independantly of one another with the bushings on the cross bar in that oriantation, and the only thing keeping the axle from side to side movement is the front mounts on the arms/frame, I could see a 2 link with a pan hard going to the frame/to axle but not from one arm to the other. With a ladder bar setup there is either trianglation of the bars or a pan hard to the frame. Just asking, I hope it works, Im just not familier with this design. Godspeed MrC.
Wow! Im not so much in those air rides, but this looks just gorgeous!! My third car was a -61 T-Bird and I always regret I sold it, perhaps one day,,,. I love the stance of your Bird, perhaps some other wheels. But I dont know about the step 2 (chop), I think it looks great as it is,,, but that's just my two cents.
its a 2 link... mounted solid at the rear. The links wont move independently of each other. punch "diagonal link" into your favorite search engine. You'll get a gazillion pros and cons... it this case, it works really well.
