watched my roadster go down the road

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by yankee mike, Mar 27, 2012.

  1. So after 10 years of owning my roadster I watched it get loaded on a transport truck today. I spent 7 years building the car and only took it out in public once in 3 years. I just couldnt ever really enjoy the car being afraid of people touching or leaning on it. So to get over selling it I went out and bought two coupes :D

  2. My new five window. Going to get some hotrod upgrades VERY soon.[IMG]

  3. My new 3 window. Plans are to put it back on orig ch***is. 331 caddy hooked to a 37 lasalle trans and a 40 ford columbia 2 speed. ALONG WITH A TON OF OTHER THINGS![IMG]

Unless you loosen up a bit you won't enjoy the coupes either. Hot rods are made to drive and use, and yes, they do get scratches, bumps, bruises and break occasionally, but that is the fun of owning one. Every ****oo is a memory and badge of honor.

Not busting your chops, just trying to get you to enjoy the new ones for what they are.................just cars.

Build 'em as best you can and then get the hell out and enjoy them. Run around without paint for a while and have some fun - it becomes addictive - fun while driving that is....

Drive the wheels off your cars, get a few scratches, have some fun. I get my coupe out every day and it always puts a smile on this old face.

    Cool coupes! Enjoy them.

(in whatever "enjoy" means to you; the build, the drive, the show or the sell)

What they all said. I read your post and thought to myself , Why would he want to put himself through all that again. Maybe this time you can shoot for twice out in the public in 10 years, you'll have double the fun.

  11. The 5 window will be my driver. its been stored for 40 plus years. Has old cracked laquer paint, black r&p, chrome garnish moldings, and a later 59 flathead. Should make a cool driver.

That was a pretty sad read. How are the coupes going to make things different?

That's why my trucks stay in primer. I want to enjoy driving them, not polishing them, or worrying about damage. Those coupes look great! Looking forward to the build threads.

Have enjoyed mine in krylon 1613. Wet towel wash job. Went to a show at a church on Sunday. Told my Police officer friend who was watching the cars. That if any little kids wanted to set in a car let them set in mine. He made several childern happy.

  20. At least you realized that if you don't drive them they are not worth having with your roadster, now don't do the same with the coupes!!!

I am a big time 5 window fan! Looks really sweet. I also love the look of an unchopped 3 window.

Anyone who knows me knows that my cars get driven. My '40 coupe has all kinds of rock chips in the front end. Heck, I just discovered a new one the other day and was bummed for about 5 seconds, then remembered WHY it got there...I was driving it!

    Have fun with them!

My opinion too. Lots of folks enjoy cars in lots of different ways, some folks get bored with a car when the build is done. Just because there are different opinions, doesn't mean one is wrong.

best thing you can do is once a car is finished is find your favorite hammer or screw driver and put a small dent or scratch somewhere so you can enjoy the car. I knocked a piece of paint off the fender of my fresh paint job by accident before I ever finished final ***embly. Boy what a relief I no longer worried about damage and now just enjoy it. I don't beat up my stuff but I do drive it.
Good luck and don't keep the coupe in the garage!

I had a buddy that was a very successful oval track racer. However what he really enjoyed was building the car and I wonder if that is the case here. If your pleasure comes from gathering parts, engineering and building your hot rod it is yours to do what you want with it. Drive or polish it and sit back and enjoy what you have accomplished. It is your stuff. Beautiful car and I am sure the new projects will turn out just as well.

my garage door guy bounced a wrench off the floor of my garage into the back fender of my '40, my wife knocked a snow shovel off the wall and put some long scratches in the deck lid, and I can't begin to tell you the number of rock chips on the front of the car and the leading edge of the back fenders...keeps them real!

Congrats Mike on the coupes!!! I know they're going to b awesome and even though your '32 was my favorite roadster it was so nice I even felt like I was getting it dirty just looking at it.

It's about time you get on out and enjoy the piss out of these two. I like the idea for the 3w but the 5w is more my style! Can't wait to see that thing come together. Get it done for Heavy Rebel.

    Viva La Coumbias!

It's not that Mike is a gold chaining old man with a **** ton of money to throw around and build a '32 roadster. Here's a relatively young guy in his 30's who scrounged up every penny to build THEE ultimate roadster with a columbia, a fully decked out flathead and original everything from the henry body and ch***is to the engine components and such. And it wasn't just money he threw at it, he's connected with a lot of people as to not buy things for less then a killer deal. I mean this thing was THEE nicest roadster I've ever seen. Picture it something that Bruce Meyer would own.

Now picture Mike building it over 7 years sometimes in a storage unit because that's the only space he had to build. Painted it outside and all and it turned out flawless.

Now imagine with all that wrapped up into the car and knowing that if this thing got dented or scratched it was going to be a major setback to someone who doesn't have one-hundred dollar bills to throw around to repair it. We all can relate to a build spinning out of control and it turning into a bigger project then we had imagined right? Now imagine doing it with a $100K+ roadster. I'd be nervous that someone would scratch it too!!!

I think that's why has moved on. I think that roadster served him well as he's now able to build two coupes because of it. The 5w is going to a great driver and allow him to put some serious miles down while the 3w goes together.

I'm stoked for him, I think this is going to work out really well.
