Art & Inspiration Black car, blue interior?

HAMBster madscience and I were debating colors for my ‘62 Falcon Deluxe project. I’ve been pretty set on black for a while now, and he opined that a blue interior doesn’t go with a black exterior. After looking through my files, though, I can’t find anything to show him how good it looks. Lots of white with blue, or black with red, but no black with blue. I hope it’s not all in my head.

Anyone have pictures of black cars with blue interiors?

Black, like white, on an exterior is a good envelope for ANY color interior. More than the color it is the shade, style or use of the color inside that makes the difference.
DO what YOU like unless what everyone else says matters... and it doesn't.

There were probably an easy dozen interior colors for black Falcons from the factory and one or more of them was BLUE.

 

That's what I thought. Black goes with everything. I once saw an early-1960s Olds 88 outside a jazz club in black with a gold interior, and that was really sharp.

I'd still like to see a couple with blue interiors, though.

i think black and blue looks good together especaily if the blue is two toned

Although OT I have seen a few 66-69 GTO's and 442's that were black with blue inside. I have seen Chevelle's also but not as many. One Fairlane 66 ot 67.

 

I kinda like the idea of a black car with a blue interior. I think that picking the right SHADE of blue will be the tricky part.

Maybe a blue pinstripe on the black exterior will tie it all together when it's done?

In the mid 70's , I painted at a Cadillac dealer, there was a coupe deville black over blue belonged to a pretty hip afro minister. First time I had seen that combo, never saw another. Also worked at another gm dealer and a salesman ordered for stock an s-10, fat fingered the order and got a chocolate brown truck with a blue interior, folks thought it would be a hard sell , but it was gone in a week.

 

Done right it would look killer.

 

I have a '64 Galaxie XL that is black with a blue interior. The guy I bought it from was the second owner and he told me that the original owner had to special order the blue interior, because it wasn't available on a black car normally. I didn't care, so I've never looked into it, but I haven't really noticed any Fords with this combo either. I think they go together well.

I know you can't really see it, but that faded cracked dash pad in the front window is blue.

 

Ok, after seeing this '55 Chevy, I'm convinced I'm making a good decision.

mine is the other way around. blue with a black interior. I think yours will look good.

 

Black exterior/blue interior would look sharp and you won't see it too often. DO IT!

 

Im painting my '62 Thunderbird, a Black Green and it has a turquoise interior.
Thunderbird is just a oversized Falcon so I think it will look good.

 

My '55 is black with blue interior - all from the factory. I'm not changing that bc it's awesome

 

When I was selling cars years ago, I had a customer order a black '86 Chevy C-10 stepside 4X4 with a blue cloth Silverado interior (black in those days, you could order ANY interior and exterior combination, not just the recommended stuff). Co-workers were saying the same thing, that black and blue wouldn't look good and such but when that thing arrived, it looked great! After he picked it up, he had it pinstriped with hand-painted two-tone blue striping, which made it look even better!

I say, "Go for it!!!!"

 

My 55 Chevy 210 also came from the factory, black with a blue interior. However, by the time I bought the car, the interior had been changed to black. I later changed it to a black and white interior.

 

I don't see that as being a good body color with that interior but what do I know I drive a 61 Dodge, so what looks good may not be my field of expertise.

I'm in on the black car with blue interior.Pontiac did it alot over the years looks good with matching blue pin stripping.

 

Well it wasn't a Falcon but my 26,000 mile, all original, '57 Buick Special Riviera was black on the outside with a blue interior.

 

Well I'll be changing mine out bc it sat in a barn from '75 - '10 and who knows what smells like it used the front seat as a terlet for 20 years! No gettin' that out.

It will stay blue

 

It seems I was holding the answer to my question all along. This gives a pretty good idea as to what a '62 Falcon Deluxe will look like black, with a blue interior:

 

I knew someone who had a '63 Futura with that same color blue interior and painted it black. sadly, I don't have any pictures to share, but it looked good to me.
Wish I would have bought that car, 289 w/ a 4-speed and slotted mags.

 

We saw this black and blue '55 in Hawaii a few years ago. Love that color combo and that sparkly blue is killer.

 

For what ever it's worth, back in the 70s a friend had a black 58 Studebaker Hawk with blue interior and matching blue pinstriping....looked sharp

 

1953 hudson hornet with stock interior.

 

If the exterior is all black and the interior is all blue, tie the look together with accessories. e.g. add black carpet floor mats, black seat belts, black knobs on a blue dash etc. That will visually blend the exterior and interior together.
