    Hello all,
I'll be polite and introduce myself first. My name is Jim Starkey (Jimmy). I'm an 'older guy' Vietnam vet era. I'm basically a Model T Ford hobbyist & antique police motorcycle restorer/collector but a fellow member here & on my Model T forum, Clayton Paddison has been working on a T retro-rod project that got me so inspired that I thought I'd give one a try. I have the T ch***is all set up with 35 Ford wheels from a previous project. All I need is some sheet metal to finish the body. Somebody gave me some sheet metal that I used till now so I never had to source any.

Any members here from the Chicagoland area? I'm in the Naperville/Aurora/Plainfield area. I can't find a supplier of HOT ROLLED SHEET STEEL (20-22 GAUGE) 4'x8' SHEETS. (I just call it black carbon steel myself). Every company I look up seems to be fabricators or heating & air suppliers. I just want some sheet steel I can pay cash for, stick in my pick up, that's not too far from me. Thanks Jimmy cell (630) 212-6214

I bet the guys at Hot Rod Ch***is and Cycle in Addison can give some guidance. They are awesome guys and skilled fabricators BTW.

I believe what you are looking for is cold rolled steel. Most steel suppliers only handle hot rolled in 14 gauge or larger. Looking at the picture of the car looks like cold rolled steel to me. Hot rolled steel looks more like the color of a piece of angle iron. Cold roll is shiney like the steel on the car in the photo.

37.5, You are correct about the cold rolled steel. I got my hot & cold flipped in the posting. Jimmy

Welcome! I get mine from a place in McHenry Illinois called Adams Steel. It may be a haul for you but just thought I would mention it. I tell them what I want they cut it and I put it in my pick up!

Thanks, That's pretty far for me (53 miles one-way) but if I can't find anyplace closer and since it doesn't involve driving into Chicago, they sound like what I'm looking for. I'll check them out on line or the phone book and get some info. Jimmy

Thank you for all the well wishes guys! Looking forward to some help as I'm an old time car & cycle builder but never truly built a Rod before. Don't forget to take a peek at my album pics. It's a Hodge-Podge of things right now but I'll put together a build thread in the near future. Jimmy

    Thanks for the welcome Jason.
Do you know any sources in Aurora for sheet steel? I would think there has to be someplace out your way. Jimmy
