Need some help! Have a '29 Tudor Sedan that I want to replace the rusted/painted steel windshield frame with a new polished aluminum job. I find half a dozen stovebolts going into the header which I think hold the hinge - is this right? I cannot see the hinge, these bolts p*** thru a channel. These are frozen and will need to be cut-off or drilled out. I need confirmation before I do this. Also, does the visor need to be removed before the ***embly can be removed? Thanks for your input....
I just removed mine, a 1931 tudor. Heres what I had. I opened the w/shield and removed several flat straight blade wood screws that go through stock holes in the channel you speak of and into the wood. Some one may have used sheet metal screws into the metal channel just above the hinges due to bad wood. I'm just getting started on my first model A so your 29 may be different then mine. I did not need to remove my visor to remove w/shield
I could be wrong but, I think just opened the winshield a little bit and slid it out one side or rhe other on my car. The top half of the hinge stayed in the car and bottom hslf slid right out. But I dont remember if the visor was on the car or not.your
On my '31 coupe, there are a series of screws going into the wooden header. The hinge is attached to the windshield-it shouldn't really slide out. I do not remove the visor, you can do it without removing it. The is a formed rubber gasket that goes over the hinge and an beaded gasket that fits around the windshield. Mac's carries both of these and the price is pretty good0<$7. Have you priced a priced a repro windshield? They're in the $275-300 and made me keep my old one.
