can any aluminum sheet be polished to a mirror finish with sand paper and polish or does it have to be 2024 aluminum? Thanks!

Just be ready with lots of sand paper, in a couple grits... Depending on how rough it is to begin with, start with 800 or 1000 and you can go all the way to 4000, and may not need any polish after 4000. Polishing is just simply removing all the scratches...

Yes, any can be polished, the harder the aluminum the longer the polish will last.

    That just sounds dirty.

A polished alum headliner would be cool, perhaps break it off with some beads in the ol' bead roller.?

You'll be smacking your friends that are in awe of your cool shiney headliner and can't resist touching it with their greasy, sweaty, contaminated fingers.

Any aluminum will polish...but if you need to do any forming you will want to use 3003... 5052 or 1100 all will polish but will also form well...sounds cool but alot of work and maint. A thin 304 #8 stainless would be pre-polished and would stay that way. Its a ***** to work with but worth the effort...good luck

If butyl/alum. sound deadener can be polished to remove the logos, kill two birds with one stone, cut squares (or whatever suits your design,) and tool a pattern into the alum. sheeting which suits you. Quiet, unique, *****in' interior.

You can order sheets of aluminum that are already polished to a mirror finish. I just ordered a sheet last week, came with protective PVC on one side to protect the mirror polish. Seriously, don't waste your time trying to polish a sheet that big (headliner) when you can order it up done. I got mine at http://www.schorrmetals.com/

Wrisco industries has prepolished and clear anodized sheets in various thickness, has a peel off protector on the finished side as well. Highly recommended!

You can let your greasball friends touch it all they want clean it with windex and NEVER have to polish it again.

They can all be polished , but it's alot of work. They can also be bought polished and pvc'd. TW Metals is my source. Aluminum and Stainless. They are are all over the country, and the world.
