This is a pretty wild looking streamliner modeled after the So Cal belly tank www.supercars.net/cars/2520.html
When SO-CAL first got it going Alex Xydias tootled around the pits in it and then the next year they raced it then they built the new one
This line in the article "In place of a rudimentary flathead V-8 is a sophisticated supercharged Ecotec engine." I'm not so sure I like that. Sounds like Gm is giving the old Flattys an official dis'. Furthermore I have seen a `34 Ford roadster running around with these Gm Ecotec badges on the salt. An official Gm project car that is Ford bodied. NOT COOL. I think Ford should return the favor as soon as possible. A `63 Vette set up for the salt running a 600 hp "Cammer" Ford crate engine ought to do just fine. Turnabout is fairplay, no?
Dont be a ****, GM is taking the reins with their Ecotech and in the process helping several landspeed racers. (the only good thing GM is doing in racing) Ford could only be as future-minded. Fords 2.3 could retake several records. And, for the record, the salt has always been about finding a "soft" cl*** or a soft combo and running fast.
I saw that the article was from 2003 but I had never seen it and I'm sure a bunch of other people would like to. If you are going to hurt my feelings, you cant play in my cave.
****??? How'd ya guess? But an observant one at least. I like the part about what you said about Gm helping several landspeed racers. Similar to the way Gm and DCX have helped some of the brightest drivers to come up through Ford's driver development programs. Do the names Jeff Gorden and Kasey Kahne stir the memories? There are plenty of others if you need more names. Seems like Ford's rivals have a penchant for snapping up talent just before they go to the big leagues. I'm sure all is fair in love and war but that don't make it right.
The driver of that '34 is a HAMBer. Todd553. And it drove from CA to Bonneville to run 209 on 38# of boost.
The Ecotec motors in full race trim put out in excess of 1,000 hp. Not bad for a little four cylinder. But cost is around $45k.
