Read the article closely. It states that the US is also looking into this.
Arnold's place is giving creedence to it too.

Hmm...seems like most roads are built with taxpayer dollars. For some roads, they issue bonds, then charge a toll to cover the cost of the bonds over several years.

So what they're trying to do is sell a road built with taxpayer money to a group who will then charge us to use it.
Just read about his in Georgia, and that was one of the things I read.

  8. On-Star. Its the wave of the future, just bought a new GM for the wife. Had a helluva time getting one without ON-Star.

Note that they are using global tracking systems to tell how far you drove. They can't afford to do it if you don't have a low-jack installed in your ride.
also if you don't have a global positioning device installed in your car you will never have to worry about getting a speeding ticket in the mail.:p

And yes we already pay for how much we drive, those that get the best milage pay the least. And any time you are on a toll road you pay for how far you drove.

Yes, we do, but this amounts to many times over 'doubling' the taxation already in place.
This is why I drive an old vehicle.
I know it will happen, but I think we should make it expensive to those who are attempting to impose this upon us.
Let's have fun storming the castle...

Yup, CA and OR are already looking into it. The CA model, as I last understood it, would eliminate the tax on gasoline and instead tax by the mile. That way, you gas guzzling Hummer that you only drive 15 miles a day gets taxed way less that the Honda Insite hybred that drived 80 miles a day, even though they use the same amount of fuel. A system like this would completely eliminate the drive to manufacture or buy a fuel efficient vehicle. Think there's no way they'll ever get a GPS device into your car? You won't get your plates renewed unless you buy and have a tracker installed by an aproved installer. Have On-Star, satalite radio or carry a cell phone? then you already have a GPS tracker on you. Comforting, isn't it?

I'll join your army any time Reg. I'm already trying to figure out how to scramble the signal. LOL I just hate money making schemes that masquerade as ways to 'help' with some problem that isn't that much of a problem. Kinda like emissions laws, cars don't hold a candle to chemical plants as far as polution but we're the ones that take the heat for the problem.

And Benno, way to go not getting their damn OnStar. It's one of those devices that blurs lines of invasion of privacy.

Ever seen that stupid commercial? "Who will call the Police when we get car jacked with my little brother in the back seat?" How are you supposed to press the ****on when some guy is driving off with your piece of ****? OnStar is designed for the type of people who have no business driving in the first place.

the california model makes no sense what so ever.

    I drive a LOT. 25k a year.

The way california is structured it's damn near impossible to afford to live close to cities. You work in the cities and have to live outside them. Public transportation for most people is a joke and about as expensive as driving and less comfortable. I work in San Francisco and live in san jose for god sake.

    I think it's ********.

We love to reward the rich. Less taxes. tax per mile...it's just dumb.

The crazy thing is...we are LETTING them do this. We are stupid enough to vote this **** into law. people need to start paying attention the rights they are GIVING away and the power they are turning over to the government.

I'm seriously considering moving to vancouver.

I would have already if I didn't want to be close to my family.

You guys read california's new budget plans? WTF? Here's another $5 billion dollars to spend...but where the hell is it coming from? No new taxes?

Maybe stop paying idiots $150k to sit on their ***es for 4 months out of the year and make laws...I mean how stupid is that.....

Your job is to make laws. Don't make laws...loose your job. Of course they are gonna propose every damn law they can dream up. I think that entire department should be part time and paid less.

Congress...paid less. No free travel. No free cars.

If you make these posissions a little less pocket filling then maybe people that actually care about the world will try to get the positions. Not just people who's rich families put them through rich schools so they don't have to really work to get richer. bah...

    I'm pissed.

  16. Actually I'll just about bet they grandfather the older cars in just like they've done with emissions control.
And my cell is a cheapy no GPS capability.

BTW the wife's in the eletronics business and she says that there is a foil that you can wrap your computer/gps device with (that she has access to) that makes it impossible for it to send and recieve.
Guess that just about makes Big Brother more like Big Total Stranger.
    Shazaam

But do you wanna hear something really scary? I found out that the the Govt can read my thoughts with the spy satellites. That's why I always keep a hat wrapped in tinfoil just incase I'm thinking something I don't want them to know. And sometimes I think stuff that I'm not really thinking just to throw 'em off.

Eric you should go car shopping with us some time. Its a hoot, I think they finally found what we were looking for to try and get us out of the show room.

when you dial 911 on your cell phone it gets CHP. I'd think that when CHP get 50 calls within a couple minutes about an accident, they'd probably start to ***ume that's why your calling.

They don't have a little map in front of them with dots that light up when you call...it's not like air traffic control.

As of I believe 2002 all wireless providers had to upgrade to use E-911. When you call 911 from your wireless phone it provides the operater with your location.

  19. Sorry friend.
Even if your wireless company has the upgrade its still telephone dependent. That's why they still can't find people in emergencies. If you don't have the correct phone you're still lost in the woods as far as the emrgency operator is concerned. My phone is only 2 years old and it doesn't have the proper hardware for them to find me.
Now I suppose if I jumped into the new millenium with an ultra zot gold chainer waffle thin picture and online capability phone I'd be safe in an emergency. but then again I made out just fine when TVs still had knobs and phones had dials so I'll probably be alright 'til my number is punched.

porkn******s your right. if you have one with gps in it. It gives location. In your case it will give them the location of the tower that picked up your call.

  21. yea I guess if they keep me on the line long enough they can triangulate. But I think that's only a Television thing. If your local cops are anything like my local cops (and they probably are) they couldn't find a Daylight Donut Shop with a roadmap.

off topic sorta on the same big brother note...

went in to my local city hall to ask about moving my driveway entrance, they punch my address into the computer and up pops an overhead photo of my house and neighbourhood, right down to all cars sitting in my backyard...and my half built new sundeck that i didn't get a permit for. the whole thing gave me the shivers.

They can still find you GPS Device installed or not..if you dial the phone.

Andrew Corporation (Formerly Grayson wireless when I worked there) makes a device that the carriers can use to triangulate on your phone using JUST the phone's signal when you dial 911. It is installed in about half the country.

YES, it works and NO you do NOT need the trainglation device in those areas. HOWEVER, some areas do not have this feature.... SOOOOOOO

BIG BROTHER has decided that ALL phones MUST have the device in them because a few big businesses didn't spend the money on upgrading their systems.

We are definitely losing our freedoms in this "free" country at a record pace. Just last week the supreme court ruled that local government has the authority to take your property for private industry.

If the local board determines it would be financialy advantageous for the community to have a Wal Mart or a shopping mall where your house is, then hello bull dozers.

Personally I think that they should start with every judge that voted for this. Maybe they would reconsider their vote if their property were first on the list to be seized.

Thats a joke right ?? here they can give you a decided value for your pad to rip it up for an airport or highway or something but not just cause some fool wants to build a shop there.... that ****s.
Suggest you atempt to get the govenors property for a strip joint/m***age parlor/***** house very financially advantegous to the area.
I get pissed on privatisation of publicly owned stuff, pretty much everything they sold here (post, phone etc) is making decent bux now as iots former owners pay more to use the service they paid to build, meanwhile Foreign govennment owned supre companies take over all kinds of stuff globally..... the one that comes to mind is Deutcsh Post (German Mail, govt owned) now owns DHL, Danzas, Air Express Intl, airborne Express etc..... not bad for a Govt dept !!!

On another note that satalite pic only goes to about 5 miles square where I live hell can't even see my house :)
