Hey guys, I know this works somtimes when you have a little leak in your power steering, but on my daily driver i have a leaky crank snout seal. (its a lil Ford festiva) Someone told me i should try and put a few ounces of brake fluid in the oil to see if this will swell up the seal and atleast slow down the leak.. Worth a shot?
ha!,. but its not really a ford!, it just carrys a ford badge, since its actully a mazda 121 that ford bought the design and sent the parts and tooling from japan to Kia in Korea for ***embly. These are great little cars, it actully outperforms my old 84 Brokeswagen GTI in everyway!,
Brake fluid is pretty corrosive, I'm thinking swelling the seal comes at the cost of eating the babbit. They make stuff to do what you want but my experience is that once they start leaking its too late.
So, it's a Japanese car made in Korea with a Mexican name? Don't think I'd try it, aren't these cars something you strap on each foot like a rocket powered rollerskate - then throw away when used up? My beater Skylark leaked out the main and I just made sure to keep oil in it. I think it burned some too. Then again it was a free car, I didn't really care as long as it lasted the winter. What is funny is in one of the hick towns I have to go through to get to one of the junkyards I go to regular, someone has a Festiva they turned into a pickup truck. Cut the back of the top off and enclosed it and put a piece of wood across where the liftgate closed the rear body... goofy looking thing. WTH can you haul in that, a crate of canaries so long as most of them fly around?
