does any company off a aluminun intake manifold with out the rise for the carburater? im installing one in a 61 cadillac and dont have much space for height of motor? cant drop oil pan below frame rails either since its laying ion the ground.... ive looked at mts caddydaddy and one other. all i see is 3inch rise's in all of them thanks.
I put a 500 in my '60 and had the same problem. Your best bet when you get there is to use a factory air cleaner for the lower hoods like yours. Usually the stock 472-500 air cleaner will do. Hopefully there is enough crown on your hood to help it all fit. I'm guessing you're using the Eldorado oil pan? I know it looks scary, and while it is close, you might be surprised.
I have to ask, - After having one in my car for 10 years and finding the stock intake was just as good for anything, (just heavy)--why do you need an aluminum one anyway? More power? Kinda like looking for another headache if the stock one works just fine.
Upon further reflection- After having an aluminum intake in the 60 Caddy here for 12 years , on a rebuilt 501 (71 model). And remembering the worn out 472 i had in it before (with the stock intake)- I find that the only favor I suppose the aluminum intake ever did for me was to lighten my wallet by 300 bucks. I had a severe oil burner when the 60 used to the original 390, and of course we liked the idea of the 472-500/t-400-aod combo for quite a few reasons, which I still do. Today I like the idea of a 472 with a stock intake, turbo 400 , and this- finding someone who could fab a proper fitting cast iron exhaust manifold for the left side. I know I saw it being done on in the HAMB somewhere. By the way---write this down When you get it all done and you go down the road and the car has an 'eliptical type of vibration that comes and goes quickly, continuosly'......look into the way the rearend is setup and how it might be easy to get the right driveline angle for the pinion. Crazy thing is, that very vibration led me to talk myself into getting what I thought was a better flowing intake that would get rid of said vibration (which I thought was coming from a few starving cylinders) LOL......................Everybody I knew thought it was a great idea until it didn't fix the vibration, then the called me stooooooppppiiiidddddd! LOL Final verdict on the 472-500 in an early 60's Caddy after having one for 12 years ? Wish I'd done it smarter, but yes I still like it hands down over the old combo they came with. But I'm NEVER going with another overdrive again behind one of those. I've had enough, trust has broken and burned. T-400s rule in these cars for me.
All the stock 472/500 intakes I have seen are variations of the same super low profile design. Those intakes are fine for a stock engine, but will cost power on a significantly modified engine.
i was just curious after searching for awhile and didnt see anything offered. (or atleast i couldnt find it). im gonna mild build it. im gonna use the rear sump oil pan yes. and a 400 behind it. If i measured a estimate right with the oilpan 1/2 inch off ground with air cleaner on ill have around 2 1/2 inches to play with with hood closed. and I WILL NOT CUT HOOD FOR NOTHING i hate a cowl lol secnwind<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_7494403", true); </SCRIPT> ill see if i can find your ad. and thanks...
368 Cadillacs ('80-'83 I think) came with a aluminum single plane intake on them. It is of a low design similar to the 472/500 intakes. Since the 368 is the last of the 472/500 family the intake should fit a 500 with little to no modification
No sorry there is no one that offers a no rise after market intake for the BB caddy. However if you are just look better performance than what a stock intake will offer MTS does some fantastic work on stock intakes.
