Oh wow! A tag light. Big violation! What a crime! Like plates aren't reflective these days. Like every cop car doesn't have a spotlight.

I used to work in law Enforcement and a big part of their lobbying for Seat Belts was as an excuse to get around Probable Cause. They weren't concerned in the least about your safety.

me and my friends have been pulled over alot in are small town for just about everything from exaust being to loud to the vehicle being to low. For some reasion they hate mini trucks and imports. They think are vehicles are unsafe but they dont relize that there probley safer then there police vehicles.

I hate mini trucks and imports too, I must be a cop.

  8. This is a refreshing thread. After reading it, I had forgotton how smart I was when I was in my 20's.

Two things in life you learn as you get older:

1- "When your dick is out on the chopping block, never stick your tougue out at the man that has the axe".

2- "The Golden Rule" Not the one you learned growing up, but the one to also live by as an adult. The other golden rule is "He who has the gold, rules". If you don't beleive in that one, keep looking in your rear view mirror everytime you get pulled over. One of these times, it will register when you get a hold of a cop that is a little more seasoned than the young one you had the other night....

Wait till he finds out your car came from the factory with a license plate light.:).

  9. I think you will find most people on this board hate mini trucks and imports as well, and I have my doubts as to them being safer than police vehicles - improperly lowered Hondas with a big fart tip on them have some very questionable suspension geometry, bottom one out in a corner going hard and tell me how safe it is.

I am not a cop fan either, but don't use a BS argument that your car is safer than theirs - most likely not close to being true.

  10. Wise words.....but you forgot #3- "Crow tastes better if you eat it while it's still warm." :)

    Me too...

I love when you follow them down the road as they puff blue smoke out of the coffee can... then you know its only a matter of time before you don't have to see that one any more.

The 30 has a stainless upper part of the radiator shell, the 31 has a painted panel.
The 30 has a 2 piece splash panel, one piece in 31

While I agree that there are good and bad people in every occupation, did you ever think that he was just trying to tell you that the light was out and had no intention of issuing a citation. There is an old saying, why make an enemy when you don't have to .....and based on how you handled it you might want to be aware of the other part of that.....the wheel is round

So you're 22 and the cop is just a little older?! Sounds like he's got a LONG time ahead of him for making your life miserable. Well done!

  17. As stated by some here, it can pay to know the laws. It worked for me once when I was around 18-19 years old.

It's 9:00pm, just getting off work. Fellow employee asks if I can give him a lift home (not far away, sure I can). I'm driving my 71 340 Duster. We get to my car in the parking lot and when I pull the headlight switch, everything except the headlights come on (all taillights work as do the side marker lights and the grill running lights). I know I really shouldn't drive with them out but I figure I'll risk it. I pull out of the parking lot and "give'er". No tire spin, just acceleration (3.23 posi and an auto), and that is the only spot that I "got on it" because at the first traffic light I came to (and stopped at, it was red) I noticed a cop behind me. I drive nice and easy, turn off the main street onto the side street and the cop follows. Just as I signal to pull into this guys townhouse complex "the lights" come on. Cop says I was doing whatever number above the speed limit (can't remember the numbers) and that will cost you 3 demerit points. I state to him that he is incorrect, the speed you claim I was doing is actually only 2 demerit points. He gets mad and says "OK then, I'll give you a ticket that will get you the 3 points" (which would be a charge for faster than he claimed I was going). Then he slipped up and asked me if there was anything wrong with my car ... being honest, I said "yes, my headlights didn't come on when I was leaving work" (I was working at Canadian Tire, an auto parts store). He said "I noticed that" and asked me why I didn't fix them so I replied "because I was LEAVING work and the store was CLOSED FOR THE NIGHT when I realized they didn't work and I can't get a replacement switch till tomorrow". Then it hit me ... the little light bulb lit up over my head. I knew the only spot that I was actually speeding was just after I left the parking lot up to the red traffic light that I stopped at (maybe 1/8 mile). After pulling me over, the cop had NOT once walked in front of my car ... how did he know my lights were out? I asked him "did you get me on radar" he answered "no". I then asked him if he had "paced" me (followed me using his speedo as a reference) and he said "I don't have to tell you that". AHHHAAAAA, I knew I had him. I said to him "this is what happened, I left the Canadian Tire parking lot and headed east, the only spot I could have been speeding was between that parking lot and the traffic lights where you suddenly appeared behind me ... BUT, because you know my headlights aren't working you would have had to have seen the front of my car, and you have NOT walked around to the front of my car since you stopped me, that means when I left the parking lot and headed east, you would have had to have been driving westbound in order to see the front of my car and that my lights weren't working, you then turned around to follow me and caught up to me at the red traffic light SO ... there is no way in this world you were able to pace me becuase, at the time that I was speeding, you were going the other direction and since you already admitted you did not get me on radar, you are simply making an estimation as to my speed, and an estimation of my speed will NOT hold up in court. He takes my papers, heads to his car for a while, then comes back gives me my papers and says "I just got an important call, I have to leave ... don't drive the car till the lights are fixed". Funny thing is, he didn't even bother to ticket me for the headlights (which he could have) ... I guess he was a little impressed/respected me regarding my handleing of the situation and felt I deserved to be let off. Interestingly, if I had NOT known the laws, I would have just accepted the ticket, paid it and ended up with some demerit points off my licence. I was young, I got a little mouthy because I knew he did NOT have the right to ticket me for speeding and I got away with it. In my case, although I had been speeding, he did not have any proof of that ... I got lucky. Another interesting point, the Duster was a really BRIGHT yellow with the factory 340 sticker down the side of the car (kinda stood out) ... I never saw that cop again.

    Sorry for the long post.
