Just got back from s****ping my old OT daily driver, the shredder at Don LaJoie's in Norwalk, Ct. was destroyed on Wednesday. Don built it from scratch, when the power company couldn't supply the power to run it he bought a diesel locomotive and hooked it up to run the thing. That pile of steel on the right was once automobiles. He was on the phone when we got there making plans to built the new one. I always liked Don as a Stock Car driver, wish him a speedy recovery to his business. Bob [IMG]

Some one run some dynamite hidden in a car body, that used to happen at the yards in San Pedro, we had to paint stripe the cars we took in so they could tell whose went in and caused it.

careful with the spelling corrections, Dr. Phil is on the HAMB and will tell you you mention it because of your deep psychological problems.

Ok, feel better now? I corrected the spelling. Now if there is a Doctor in the house that can explain the d's for p's and other mirror image swaps I do on the keyboard and longhand I'd like to know the reason. Bob

I work at a s****yard with a shredder. The shredder itself won't be damaged much by fire but the electrical and hydraulic systems will be damaged. We have a water injection/fire suppression system that can flood everything with water in seconds. We have explosions and fires from vehicles with gas in the tanks and the occasional propane tank. It doesn't do much damage other than tearing off some belting we use to keep metal from flying out. The neighbors complain about it.

This fire caused the 4-5 story high structure to fall and crush the engine and bent the I beam base it sat on. It's totaled, and the area was just about cleaned out when we were there a few hours ago. It may take 6 months before a new one is up and running.

  13. Speaking of Don Lajoie,,,while checking my old hometown paper on the 'net,,there was a story that Don had arranged,,$$,,to provide a Police Dog to the city of Danbury,,,,sort of a thanks for good times at the Racearena.

Can you post a link to the story? Spent a lot of Saturday nights at the races, I never go to the Shopping Mall that covers the grounds now.

I would spend every Saturday morning at Lajoie's back in the day seaching for parts for a project. That was when you went in with a tool box and helped yourself. That sure has changed.

For whatever his other faults, when Kevin Costner drove a Shelby in a movie, he didn't even abuse it. Let alone destroy it.

Apart from the owners personal financial loss of the plant for which I feel for him, I'm not going to cry over a s**** yard going down for a few months.
Normally everybody on this site screams murder upon the mention of s****pers and s**** yards and shredders.
I see it as one less monster chewing up your history and your heritage to be sent of to China to smelter into a eco friendly fridge/freezer or worse a "GREAT WALL SUV"

No mention of how it started, I forgot to mention nobody was injured fighting the thing. This area has been picked clean of vintage/collectable things so most of the vehicles going through this yard are 5-20 years old.
