Looking for advice on this... Have opportunity to pick the above pictured A ch***is for $1500. Looks to be in fantastic shape, 4-banger motor runs and has a lot of new parts. Engine, ******, rear, etc all supposedly work and it rolls. Good deal? And if so, what would I expect to be able to re-use when building up the Model A RPU I'm planning on building? Springs, wishbones if split, rear end, ******, etc.? I ***ume the front axle is not of use since it's not dropped, eh? Still seems like a pretty good deal. What do you all think? Thanks!
I'd use the whole thing. Build an ol'boat tail speedster or roarin roadster outa it. Get a few hop up bits for the banger.....Shiny
Do you want to build a stock Model A. If so it's a good deal. Actually if you left the frame and running gear alone, maybe put some hop up parts on the banger. Put a body on it with no fenders. It would make a neat gow job. If you want to build a full out hot rod with a V8, It's not a good deal. "A" bones are a little weak for me. The rear won't hold up and to top it off the brakes on it now are manual. Try stopping a v8 with go-cart brakes Basically you're buying a frame for $1500 Clark
I see grinder marks where the Frame Serial #'s usually are. Has the serial # been removed or just exposed so you can verify the CA pink slip that goes with it? What no pink? Run! What Clark said if you aren't building a banger Ford. $1500 for a $100-$200 frame.... That's why the guys getting rid of it himself! He's trying to do the myth that all the magazines have foisted for decades about "take the body off and build a hotrod around it and sell off the stock ch***is to a restorer." If you ain't a restorer, you don't want that pile of antiquity. And if yiu are, you want the ***le to the engine/Frame serial $s with it.
Yeah, after looking through my wishlist of parts and realizing that almost everything I was planning to use is 36 and later, this is starting to sould less and less like a good deal for my intended purpose. Thanks for the sagelike advice! I'll stick with the original plan... If I was confortable with my welding experience, I'd fab my own frame, but I'm not at that point yet. I don't trust my welding to life/death situations yet, for sure. Thanks again for the advice. I am thinking that Groucho's ch***is/cab combo is a better idea. Hopefully, It'll still be around in a month when I'm ready to pull the trigger...
I'd pay at the most a grand, sell the motor (if it runs good) for $500, the trans for $100, the rear you'll probably get stuck with, the wheels for $100, & be happy with the rest for the $300 you have invested, I just paid $750 for a similar rolling ch***is but the engine didnt look as fresh but did run & thats what I got out of the extra's.
Like stated previously, if you want to build an early, simple mostly stock 'A based rod, it's a good deal. Throw some speed parts on the 4-banger, a seat and a skimpy body and off you go. If you want a more developed rod than no. All you'll end up using is pretty much the frame, which is only worth $1-200. -Dean
If the seller has the receipt from the shop that redid the mains and rods and all the other rebuild work it would be worth the asking price. But I think spending the money on a body first would be a better way to start.
Itd make a *****en gow job! i was looking for something like that a while back, ended up getting a A pheaton that runs, then im gonna yank the body of and build a different ch***is for that, and them stick my A roadster body on the running ch***is with a few speed goodies (zepher intake) etc etc and gow!
