I am trying to build a BBC that looks vintage and old, very old. I have my V/C's & breathers but need an older looking multy carb intake manifold and can't afford a rare Man A Free style. I found a EFI manifold and I keep going back to it thinking that it could be made into a multy carb unit of some sort. I don't mind grinding bosses off and filling unwanted hole and smoothing it out. What are the possibility's with the manifold pictured if any? Will it even fit the older BBC heads? Thanks!
I like the idea however looking at that manifold, the ports are too long and not wide enough for a 2G, 94 or 97 carb base. The ports to suit these carbs are on a wider base across the engine and the separator between the runners would interfere. Individuals adapters would need to be machined and could then possibly work.
It probably wouldn't run very well, the intake is designed to be "dry", the fuel is introduced at the exit of the manifold. Also you get to fill the heat riser hole area on the manifold, to seal it to the heads.
I think using that intake is a great idea. Before I built my 6x2 intake, I kicked around using a 4x2 crossram and milling the tops off and making carb adaptors for 2GC's. Anyway here is a shot of my 582 CI "396" with 6x2's, made to look old.
That's a good point. You could build a single or duel plenums for the carbs. I did one on mine to make the tuning easier.
brigrat, how old are you trying to make it look? that intake with a 2 or 3" spacer built for each opening to adapt to a 2G would be cool
Seems like the injector holes could be piped together, maybe with larger tubing to add some volume, to balance things out. And a 4th small hole may be drilled at the new carb adapter hold down area. You would then have a sturdier plate to hold your new carbs. What exactly is that manifold off of? Year/ model / motor / application ?
