HELP !!!!Could sure use some info on the ford 9" rear. I need to know if the pinion is centered on any of the 9" rears. Shaft needs to pass through the early frame X member. One of the short Granada rears maybe ?? Thanks for your help!!
In stock form most 9" ford rears are centered pinion. In the pickups it is offset 4.25", the vans can be even more.
X2 on Marty Strode's post.I believe only the vans and maybe some pickups had an offset pinion. Granada would have an 8" not a 9". ROY.
Not to get off topic but I think there were a few Granada's or Mercury Monarchs that had 9s in them from the factory. The very similar Lincoln Versailles version came with the 9" rear and disc brakes. Yes, most came with an 8" rear.
Factory housings vary based on application. Not sure just how tight of an area you are working with, but a "centered" housing only offsets the pinion 1" to the passenger side. Or just cut a factory housing to get exactly what you need.
'76-'79? Granada, Monarchs and Versailes with 4 wheel disc brakes had 9" rears, even with 6 cylinder engines.
I'm just trying to decide on keeping the ford 8" that mounted in the car now fits nice but no goodies non posi drum brakes and will it hold up to a 472 caddy. Should I put a few bucks into it or just look for a 9 ?? that's where I'm at. Thanks for the help!!
