I'm building a 354 for my A Coupe and am trying to pick out a good camshaft for it. The 354 is a very nice standard bore engine, so we will be re-using the stock pistons, rods, and crankshaft. We will just give the block a light hone and use some new rings and bearings. The heads are the "555" heads that are un-ported and have the stock valve sizes. I am thinking compression will be around 9:1. I also have adjustable push rods. I want to run a hydraulic camshaft, but there doesn't seem to be a lot to choose from. I will be running a Muncie 4 speed and a 3:70 rear end. I'll be breaking the engine in with a 4 barrel, but have plans to use 2 4 barrels. I want this to make some good power for my Model A. Does anyone have any suggestions on what camshaft to use and who to buy from? Thanks
Call Chris Nielson in Utah he's one of the best on hemi cams ,i'm very happy with his grind.Id have him reface your old lifters too Also make sure you don't put a 392 cam in it.ph 801 451-7745
If your core is good I would have it reground for your application....Local grinders could just tighten up the lobe separation and give it a little duration but leave the lift alone so you dont need crazy valvesprings and it would sound good. I have had good luck with Delta...Dave is a sharp dude! Also a place in Portland Or. called Redline. I havn't used them yet but they seem like sharp guys too. Hope you can use this info to save some cash...Race
I got a Howards cam. They are blank cores, they grind it to your specs. I ended up using a spec similar to Lunati's Voodoo 268H cam. Pretty nice http://www.howardscams.com/chrysler/chrysler-hemi-v8-331-354-1956-1957
