    Hi,

Have this clip on and i am getting some tire rub on my fenders with a high offset rim. It was lowered by the fella i bought the frame from but maybe lowered a bit much. Would adding a beefier spring help raise it up a bit? I am not overly knowledgeable on lowering vehicles but it makes sense that it would work.

    Thanx.

Well, if the wheels are a deep offset and the rub the prudent thing would be to put rims on it that didn't stick out so far wouldn't it?l Super wide or deep rims never seem to look right on those trucks anyhow.

If you like the ride quality as is [ apart from the tire rubbing ] just get the existing springs re-set a bit higher .
Allow for the "motion ratio" eg: re-setting the springs 1" taller will probably raise the vehicle 1-1/2"
Beefier springs usually means a stiffer ride

    probably has 'cut' coils

look at new ones for the Camaro application then compare

    I would change the wheels...
The camaro clip is a little wide for these trucks but if you run a wheel with less offset you should be fine. It will look better to. I put big block springs in my 59 apache and it was a *****. I had to use a spring compressor and jack it into place at the same time.

Are you sure that it's a Camaro clip? I bought a '52 Ford F1 that the owner said had a "Camaro clip" and it turns out it was a GM G Body (Monte Carlo) clip. As Camshaft666 said, the track width on a Camaro is a bit too wide for an F1. Then again, this may help explain your scrubbing.

Anyway, there is a long thread here if you'd like to read all the trials and tribulations that I had getting my truck right. I think that you'll find a lot of helpful information in there.

    Good Luck!

Fatman makes some shortened "A" arms for the uneducated people who buy/and or put in a camaro clip on these f1's and f-100's and chevy pu's which is way too wide....I think the older ones (67-68) are more on the narrow side and would work but not sure.

I do not know why folks think a camaro fits everything old....usually the reason that most of these camaro clipped cars are for sale.

I would suspect that the ride and handling will change some as the A arms are shortened but you probably could keep your wheels I would think.

I put a 70 Monte Carlo clip on my 55 F100 and it was perfect.

I bought a 77 camaro same thing was a round track race car,had bigger springs,Put in 52 Chevy car and the best rims and tire i found that workes the best was 205/75/15,and stock 52 wheel.
They have a 5" wheel with 3 1/2 back spacing. It would hit very little when turning sharp.
I have a 52 f1 and needing a clip was wondering a good one for the change.

    Mr48chev,

My mistake, they are not deep (- offset) but rather a positive offset or you could say lots of backspace. Cheers.

Thanks for all the help everyone, i think i know what i have to do or what options i have. The springs are not cut on this, it has a proper lowering kit. Currently there are 6" wide, 14" rims With 195/75 tires, with just by eyeballing must have 4" of backspace. I will post a few pics once my truck comes back from the body shop.

I would think the f1 is wider then 52 chevy car.
The 52 chevy car wheel 5" x15 with 3 1/2 backspace leaves 1/2 out. and 6 wide with 4bs leaves 2"out.Any thing after that is special order.

So I jacked up the truck and I need about 1.5" to make the tire turn. Probably spacers are the best direction but how exactly do you 'reset' the springs higher? Thanks man.

    How was it lowered?
Aftermarket lowering springs? Z-d control arms? Dropped spindles?

A month ago I put the 1" spacers under my front coils to lift up my front end. It ended up lifting the front end up 1.75" which is perfect. Now the wheels turn freely without any rub, but when they are straight the outer edge is mighty close so I am giong to change from a 195 to a 165 tire when I buy my new wheels. Thanks for the help on this issue.

Just doing all the final blocking and its going for paint in Aug/Sept!!

The best wheel for that clip is the 52 chevy wheel 5" with 3 1/2 " backspace
    The tire size is 205/75/15

Thanks for the info george. I am actually going to order chrome smoothies with shannon cones from the wheelsmith in CA. They will have 4 1/2" backspace so it will be the perfect fit.
