Hello from Montreal! Im 52-years old and have always been a car guy but I grew up around live steam locomotives. Both my grandfathers built scale models from scratch that burn coal like the big engines. I thought everyone had a machine shop in their basement and train tracks in their backyard. I learned a lot from them, my Dad and the other live steam guys. Of course I had to be different and in elementary school I read Hot Rod, kustomized plastic models and drew cars in all my books. I attended the art program in college until the faculty suggested I leave and get a job in advertising. Im a good apprentice but a lousy student. I had a couple of studio jobs but soon was working freelance and over the years my work evolved towards motorsports photography (karting to NASCAR & Formula 1) and then I began writing race reports for print and web. I was fortunate to begin writing new car reviews about 10 years ago and that led me to write for the big English newspaper in Montreal. I still review cars but they also gave me a weekly column on customizing cars which really opened some doors! I write features on cars, builders, shops, fabricators and suppliers. Ive met some new friends in the kustom scene and the time was right to buy a car for ourselves. Im not stuck on kustoms, rods or trucks dont have a fave brand either, I just lean towards traditional rides. My oldest daughter is a crackerjack photographer, way better than her old man, and we often work together as a team. We still restore, repair and build steam locomotives, both the models and the full-size ones. I found myself a nice original 1950 Chevy Styleline and bought it last week. Im having it shipped up from Texas in the next week or so. Hey, it was originally made in Oshawa Ontario so its just coming home!
Welcome from the cultural center of the universe, Oklahoma! You might want to check out the Old Farts Club here on the HAMB. Dean Lowe has quite a RR set up in his back yard. Atomic Mudshark is a boilermaker in Aussie land. I was a draftsman for a boiler shop for years, so there is an appreciation for steam here and there, even from car guys.
OK, so that works. First drive in the Chevy… up onto the trailer to bring her across the border from NY. Car came from OK via TX.
I see you know Alexandre Perras. I almost bought a '52 Chevy 4-door from his father. I didn't get to meet Alexandre but I did see his Plymouth. Did he sell it?
