Tatum's gonna be expensive. I'd make the drive to Puyallup myself.

Dave has a fully equipped engine-building machine shop geared to street-performence and race motors along with restoration of auto and aviation engines. His experience and capability with Ford-Mercury flatheads are as good as it gets. If you want precision, quality work on your flathead, Dave is the man in the NW. Bear in mind that flathead parts are pricey -- just as pricey for a so-so build shop as they are for spe******ts like Tatom.

orcas, i would stop in and talk to Dave, and then i would go down and talk to Delta as Paul mentioned. I have heard good things about them as well

your flathead rebuild is gonna be a little more costly to do right compared to your average rebuild......there are guys i am sure that can give you a "hell of a deal" but you always seem to get bit in the *** from the "deal"
I dont care who you ask about anymore, someone is going to have a "story" about them...its the nature of this business......i get guys bringing stuff all the time telling me what a ****py job they got from so and so.......sometimes the quality of ther work is bad.....but sometimes its something they did and they just dont want to accept the blame......

I would personally contact a few of the guys doing the flatty rebuilds and see who you feel comfy talking with, then try to get a little more info on them..such as what beet has provided about Tatom....i know i am going to call myself.......this is actually the first bad thing i have heard about his qaulity.....i hear alot about his prices...never an issue with a completed engine.....

and i will say it again, and i have told guys on here before, be wary of the cheapest guy.... quality machines and the people trained to use them properly cost money to run........i dont know how many times over the years people have posted on here about the screaming deal they got on machine work, only to post a couple of months later about the problems they are having with their great deal...........

good luck and and let me know if i can give a ya hand in any way on this side of the water

Yeah, Hagens did my block and Delta ground my cam.
Both did a nice job and are very reasonable.
I am running a 12V Tatum starter though.
