I traded my '28 Coupe for a '53 Kustom because I needed a back seat. I'm still happy with the trade but found myself building a '31 Roadster... Once you get yourselfes into hotrods you can't live without one. Same goes with Harleys.

I did once and then traded back for a hot rod again. If you already have a custom I don't think there's a need for another. Plus they take up more space in the garage and generally are slow. That sounds like reason enough there.

Here's an experience...last weekend I pulled my '40 Studey out of the shed it's been stored in for the last two years...I checked all its vitals since I didn't put any miles on it in those two years (started it and let it warm up in the shed to keep the fluids flowing)...just yesterday, while it was 84 degrees in Denver, my bro and I took the ol' Studey out for a three hour cruise ...

While we cruised around, destination nowhere, I remarked to my brother several times: "I sure don't remember this old car riding this ruff," listening to all the creaks, groans, engine noise, wind noise and bumps the 3" lowering blocks in the rear gave us...

When we got back home, I thot back to last summer...cruising in my '55 Caddy with the windows rolled up, the intense quiet of the stock 500" Caddy purring and the stereo at a reasonable level so my bro and I could carry on a conversation and not shouting at each other. The car rode incredibly smooth...city street and hiways, after all it's a Cadillac, it should.

I liked that so much better than in my old hot rod...

    So, in answer to your question...I would...in a heartbeat...but it's your choice...

You'll know you've made the right choice after you've done the deal. Comfort can be realised together with horsepower.

If you have more than one hotrod go with a custom. like stude dude said its nice to cruise and be able to hear the person in the car with you. I guess on that note do you have someone you want to listen to while driving. I like when the wife and i go out on the bike just the wind and the exhaust. If you are really milling it over than your mind is really already made up you want to do it. who cares what we think make yourself happy you only live once.

I used to trade and sell cool **** for other cool **** I wanted. Half the time I'd regret it. Now I've learned I should just be patient and go one at a time and get everything I want, instead of giving up something I like to get something new.

My ride might not be a hot rod in the traditional pre-war car sense, but I would trade it for a chopped Merc if someone offered up a nice one.......
I'd probably yank whatever engine was in it and drop something mean in it to have the best of both worlds.

  26. If I can only have one, I'll take the hot rod. Typically way less maintenance and my cleaning and polishing day are over. I never get tired of hammerin' a hot rod.

Got rid of my 5-W, replaced it with 49 Meteor custom coupe.

Reasoning: 1. Long distance, took a day to recover from ride in 32.
    2. Long distance, more relaxed in Custom.
    3. Age, maybe.
    4. Low and slow, I dont think so, 454 Ci In. with 700 R 4.

I love Hot Rods, but just to look at, and go on short drives. :)
