Forum noob seeking advice on 55-59 Apache.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by apache_downunder, Apr 6, 2012.

  1. Hi all. Great to be a part of this forum and thanks for having me aboard. I am posting from Melbourne, Australia and am a huge fanatic of the Chevy Apache series of trucks both single and dual headlight models.

Herein lays my dilemma. Originally I was partial to the twin headlight version, thought it looked more aggressive then the earlier single headlight version but having studied both in their entirety I am starting to swing back to the single headlight version.

Just want to put it out there and get the forum's opinions on which model/year apache u guys and gals prefer and why. This could inclde features, looks etc.

Would really appreciate the feedback and will ***ist me greatly in making a decision which one to purchase.

    Cheers.

Why would what we like, influence what you like?

I like them all, I have a couple 57s and a couple 59s. I like the look of the 55-56 too.

how about an intro with some info on you? have/had any old rides? as for question on truck this leaves you wide open to find the best deal rather than limiting yourself

I like the 55 (2nd series) best. I like the single headlights ,and the very simple/clean grille. But then again, I'm biased. :)

    It the one YOU like.

  8. I like both. Depends on what you want it to be in the end. A mate has a silver/grey one, you may have seen it around, Low, wide whites, olds caps, T&R seat.......I never thought that much of them till he did some mild custom stuff to it, now I think its cooler'n'****!

How can you go wrong with a 59 fleetside?
    I prefer the GMCs tho.

Aren't the cabs the same ? I think you could buy the best deal that comes your way and change the fenders if you like.

  12. I am actually partial to the '57 but any of the 3 fives is a looker.

Way down in the snout to give it an agressive rake.

I'm surprised no one pointed out yet that they weren't called 'Apaches' till '58 - which was when they went to 4 headlights as well. "Task Force" is the name for the 55-59 family of trucks.

I have a '55 as a daily driver, I get asked all the time if it's an "Apache"

I prefer the single headlight versions, but like them all. I'd like to find a '57 hood for mine, they had the two raised 'gun sights' similar to a '57 Chevy car but without the ornaments.

I have a 56 and a 58 and am partial to the 56 only because I got hooked on them at an early age. But the 58 with quad head lights is really growing on me. It all depends on what you want and what you like. They are basically the same truck, just with a different front end and with different box options. You have the step sides, fleet sides and the ever so rare Cameo's.

  16. Yeah very noice jigger there sawbuck. Can I ask what u ended up getting for it?? That one would have been perfect. Just after something pretty much already done, needs no work and ready to haul ***. Drive and enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback guyz and after what some said at the end of the day it's what I like but always nice to hear why a particular year/model is more sought after then others.

    Cheers.

58-59 are my favorite. they seem to be overshadowed by the "tri-five" years. there all bad*** but the twin headlights get my vote. fleetsides especially

That's what I was thinking. And I started digging them when no one wanted the 58-59's, they were the ugly ducklings for a while... Used to be able to get them cheap.
