As my very large pile of parts are starting to resemble a 58 impala I'm contemplating tire and wheel combos and was hoping for a little info what people where running back in the day. I keep leaning towards chrome reverse and moons but keeping options open

The three wheels i keep running thru my head are cragars, chrome reverse and D's, going to get it assembled and trimmed out before i make a decision. this has been the part that has been the most difficult for some reason

55-56 15" early Dodge Royal Lancers. These were always hard to find, even in the late 50's & 60's. After about an 18 to 24 month search I have 2 sets of them now.
#1 set almost perfect in all respects, #2 set ...... marginal. But I really feel lucky to have them.

There is a "chrome revers picture thread" on here somewhere that has great pics, I think those look great on a '58 Chevy. I'd prefer OE style chrome wheels where you can see the lugnuts over the baby moon style "smoothie" wheels though. Cragar SS do look nice with a skinny whitewall if you're going for a lowrider look, or a redline tire for a 60's street racer look.

Original chromed steel Cragar SS, they don't date and still look as good today as the day they were introduced.

I've always liked the Buick 15" chrome ralleys that came on the 60s models (64-72). They look good on just about anything. You can paint the inserts pretty easily since they're not deep-set, and if they're done in the same color as the car they look awesome. I have a buddy who is running them on a 55 Poncho. If I can find a complete set, I may even put them on my 53 210.
