    Thanks for posting the solution.

I learn as much from reading through these threads as guys try to solve issues, as I do from fixing my own stuff.

i had a pinging that would happen at idle, then got faster with higher RPM's. ended up being a helical hairline crack at the mounting holes on my fan pully. it's that ridiculous small stuff (sounds) that will drive you crazy. see you this weekend -DVZ

Yay...finally. No more vibration and no more ding ding ding. I didn't have any better input than the others offered, so I just watched...and learned something here. Thanks for posting. Sounds as though you've been putting up with this for a while. Your trip to Texas is gonna be so much more enjoyable. Have fun, Tuck.

Had the same sound, ended up the starter was just too close to the flex plate. As the trans shifted I would get the sound but only under load, not normal driving I checked the runout on the flex plate and shimmed the starter back from that point

I had this exact same thing in a past car. I chased the problem and could not come up with a solution. Then BOOM, the flexplate let loose while my wife was driving home from the Nats North. Look at the flexplate real close and I think you'll find the issue.

Otherwise it's like reading a magazine article in the doctor's waiting room and some ***** tears out the last page....

I've heard of the pinion gear thing myself, still a confounding problem to ferret out. Good going!

Your flexplate imbalance issue makes me wonder what's imbalanced on my 880, I get a very brief shudder when leaving a full stop and it goes away before 10mph...I'll have to check my torque converter and flexplate...glad you got both issues fixed Tuck, have a good trip to Austin...

Man I haven't heard from you either... I admit you always put a nice twist on all your posts... have you always looked though tinted windows??? :p Let some sunshine in or start taking vitamin D! I've been working 16 hour days up here- stop in and stroke my ego! Man its a good thing I have a grip on yer sarcastic humor..... :)

BIG THANKS to everyone here because I would still have that damn vibration if I hadnt started eyeballing that flexplate! I'm so damn stoked you have no idea-

You drive the thing down the freeway at 80 and it rides like my grandmas caddy...

Probably the same for anything that turns in the prescribed direction...(Corvairs turn counter clockwise)
