We've had it with Southern (Port St. Lucie) Florida, and are looking to buy a place in St. Augustine. We were there on Easter weekend and checked out a place with 2- two car garages....about 5 minutes off Route 1. I saw a few old cars and motorcycles in town, and thought that I belong in that area. Any "Hamb" folks in that area? Any plus, negative, or valuable info to comment on?
yea! There are a few of us!! I live on the Island past the light house. Also St.Augustine Cruisers car club and Ancient city car club nice bunch. Doug
I believe HAMBer Lloyd is there, and I am a few miles away too. St. Augustine is a nice town, but as a tourist destination can be a bit crowded at times.
I love St. Augustine. Hope to buy a place there when I retire from UF. Maybe by then they will finally be done with the Bridge of Lions LOL. The old fort has many wandering souls.
Lots of action in Jacksonville and Daytona too! Something going in Jax almost every weekend depending on what you're into. JaxChevy
We were down to St. Augustine last month and camped in Anastasia state park. My daughter is starting at Flagler College in August so we went down to get things squared away. The state park and whole area is simply beautiful. She cant wait to get back there. My wife and I will be down several times to visit her so maybe some of us could get together for a beer at the White Lion or something when there. Mitch.
I lived there about 25 years ago for a summer intern gig working on the fort. I lived in an apartment right down on the tourist street above a candy store that had a big porch that overlooked the street. Good people watching during the day, but totally dead at night. It was fun for the summer, but a bit slow besides the tourist stuff. I don't recall much hot rod stuff going on back then, but that was the 80's so not a fair ***essment since that was heavy muscle era no matter where you were at the time. While I was there, we got robbed once by a guy who just crawled in and out of our open bedroom window while we were sleeping. We didn't even know it until the cops came knocking on our door to tell us they caught him and asked us to identify our stuff. If I recall, someone saw him climbing out of the window and called the police and they went and caught him. That was a bit eye opening, but that stuff can happen almost anywhere. It was still a fun summer despite that. Unlike southern FL, I was under the impression it can get a bit chilly up there in the winter, at least as compared to down at the south end of the state. My brother lives in the Keys, so anything below about 70 is serious winter weather to him.
love st augustine, you can dress in any [pirate, pilgrim etc] clothes and walk around town and turists think you are part of some event and want their pix taken with you. we were up there drest as pirates, had a ball, kids thought we were the real thing. arrrrr
