    flatshoebox won!

I had my ass handed to me.

As raceing goes he just plain beat me.
We raced 6 times and he had me by a long shot everytime. I had a few better lights than him but my car would fall on its face off the line.

Ill let FLATSHOEBOX tell the rest when he gets home.

Sounds like you need a little more time to tinker with all those carbs. Should have been alot closer race than you are describing. well bolt on some more money and try again.

Having done it on the street a zillion times back in the 50-60's I never doubted the outcome.
About the only times I lost was when the 49 shoebox snapped an axle. I didnt know yet that they strengthened them in 50.

    Flatheads rule; stovebolts eat dust.

YA i really need more time with it. The motor has been on its way out lately. The machine shop has to fix some machining mistakes but i had to race him, its just been too long. We will race again.
Flatshoebox knows my car wasnt running very well. Last time he only beat me by half a car.

  8. Well I had my money on the Flathead:D but I at least thought it would be a little closer than that! It was probably mentioned before, but what speed parts do both your mills have?

Travis- I really thought it would be closer too. Guess this just means you'll have to get her running better... I'd like to see what you run when your cars tuned better.

Still had a good time though. Great seeing everyone again.

I'm new here, but isn't that 53 Mainline a bit heavier than a 49 Shoebox?? Not only that, but the V-8 has 34 more cubes! If the 215 is keeping up and not getting left behind sounds like it's doing good to me. My in-line six will take a L-head Ford anyday, but I'm not exactly old-school with it, and it's a bit bigger at 280 inches. Okay, I'll tell ya -- it's an AMC/Jeep 4.0L bored 0.030" over with a 74 4.2L (258) crnak and rods. Plus I'm running the EFI. See my profile for more.

You very well may have won if your reaction time was better than his by enough to offset the E.T. difference. "HOLE SHOT!!!" :)

I wouldn't waist 2 cents on that 215....
A 300 Ford 6 is the way to go, if you want to impress people with a 6 banger, they're plentyfull and usually cheap enough, too.
Bone stock, they got gobs of torque and there is plenty of speed parts available if you really wanna wake em up. The Ford 300-6 can be a kick-ass
    engine.

215 was the first displacement in the OHV inline six ford came out with in 52. 54 saw the displacement bump to 223cid and there it stayed untill 62 or 63 when they went to 262cid for the heavy duty trucks...
they were all pretty much the same motor tho

its not about plentifull parts, or impressing anyone with an inline, its about keeping the right mill in the car. i know thats why i kept my 223 sicks :D

Im very happy with the 215 and impress plenty of people. Thats like saying your wasting your money on a Flathead, put a sbf in it. IMO
I dont know anyone running one and thats why I have one. There are some changes between the 215 and the 223 which only some people notice, my block was only made for 2 years and thats why i like and chose to keep it.
