In the process of re-painting my coupe and was wondering if anyone has put gl*** or plexigl*** on top instead of putting the vinyl insert. Could be cool to have a big moon roof, as long as it was tinted. Pictures and suggestions would be great! Thanks for the help
There used to be a 36 3 window in my home town with one..it was a 70's build...I never cared for it much myself, sorry I dont have any pics of it .
There was a company in the late seventies that made plexigl*** tops for early Ford applications. I remember the article in Street Rodder from early '78 or so. I can't honestly remember seeing one out in the world though... I think it would get pretty hot inside.
I had an o/t car with a tinted plexigl*** roof...If you're hair's a little thin on top you're gonna feel the burn.
heres a 36 sedan custom from back in the day with a blue plexi top insert... I cant find the "good" photos I had saved...
Howzabout a cl***y fabric fold back roof insert ala some of them there old European high end saloons. Surely with the top folded back, windscreen wound out & side/rear windows wound down you would be stepping into cl*** cabriolet territory at a fraction of the price. I am surprised that none of the coupe brigade have attempted this.
Ford is selling the Mustang with a gl*** roof option right now. If it's flat you could easily run 1/4" tempered, laminated safety gl***. You'd get 1/8" tempered with the lamination and another layer of 1/8" tempered. You could tint it even with the lamination or on the surface of the interior side. If it's curved there are companies that do that too. I work for a commercial door and window company and I've bought 1/4" laminated safety gl***. Mark up on gl*** is a little large. Expect to pay at least $60-70/sq-ft for flat 1/4" tempered lami. If it has to be curved the price shoots up fast.
the one I grew up in had one--leaked like a seive the whole time. avoid it like the plague! unless you live in the desert and it only rains once a year.
Sounds like a mediocre to poor install to me. You couldn't just drop it on and expect it to be sealed.
