I have an Edelbrock performer 650 dual four setup on a RPM Air Gap intake. I was looking at these air cleaners (http://www.jegs.com/i/K-N/599/58-11...roductId=743335). Looks like they have a 9" outer diameter at the air cleaner, which wouldn't allow enough room with the dual fours.

Anyone use these type of air cleaners with dual fours? Pictures?

Ditto what Jeff says. I had a J2 set up with the little chrome pots on top. When I set the carbs with no air cleaners, it ran great. I put on the air cleaners and noticed a difference at idle, the car stunk up the garage to where I had tears in my eyes. I used the same top and bottom for the air cleaners with an element from a Plymouth horizon, about five inches tall. It ran good after that.

    Thanks guys! Couple questions...

Right now I have an Edelbrock oval dual quad cleaner on there. It has a 2.5" wide cleaner element and probably sits 2.75" above the air horn at its high point. Do you know of any filter elements sold for this type of cleaner that are wider than 2.5"? Also, in absence of a wider cleaner element or along with one, would adding a spacer on top of the air horn be a good idea?

    Thanks again!

Double up on the filter elements.... make sure you use a longer stud for the wingnutz...

  5. I have an offy 2x4 for my small block and a 10" is about as big as you can get on one. They just are not quite big enough for my taste.

I am planning to buid a pair of stubby stacks and an Airbox to go on top of them with either a big oval air cleaner inside or a couple of ducts to a pair of very large air cleaners on the ends of them. Hokey looking I am sure but I am a sort of a form follows function sort of a fellow.

I run the ones from jegs and they perform fine on my 392. They have the filters like K&N up to 5 in tall.

4tFord and donnieGT, Yep, that's the look I was going for, only I was looking at the stacks with the wider cleaner element. I was even thinking of using a spacer to stagger them, like DonnieGT's.

I think with the shorter cleaner element, using a spacer on top of the air horn will help so the two air cleaners will fit side by side. But with the wider ones.... it's 5+" of width and so even a 2" spacer won't overcome that. It looks like to make that look work on my dual quad set up (as close as the air horns are to one another), I'd need to use a spacer with the narrower filter element stacks??

Me and a friend flowed a lot of different air cleaners
on his flow bench and those stacks was the worst
flowing ones and even without filters
Best flow was a bottom and top from a Ford 460 with
the sides cut away a 4 inch element a 5 inch didnt show
    any improvment

Heo2 - good to know! I will abandon that idea and look at stacking two filter elements into my existing oval cleaner and put in a longer stud.
    Thanks!

Not so fast; What brand did you test?

i think if a smart guy (and trust me, i'm not) like Brother Bill Mitchell runs these, then i would think the chances are that they flow decently.

Thank you for bringing up the question as it opens me up to filtering possibilites; i was thinking of running a dual tunnel ram (and i can barely tune 1 carb.....) and was unsure how i would handle the filter issue. But this looks like a workable solution.
