Hi guys, just started up my new project, a Fibregl*** 41 Willys from a company here in New Zealand, unfortunately said company has now gone bust. The problem I have is that the depth of the scuttle between the windshield and the firewall looks to be quite a bit deeper than standard so the standard piano type hinges won't work.
Looking through the forum I might be wrong as several shots show quite a deep scuttle, does anyone have a shot of standard hinges ?
For standard hinges the hinge pivot point would need to be some way behind the firewall for the hood to clear everything, or maybe I am just confused ?

Does anyone know of a type of hinge standard or otherwise that would fit onto the flat firewall but would still allow the hood to go up and down with out fouling the windshield ?

  5. Jon,
Welcome to the Hamb...there are indeed lots of knowledgeable Willys guys on her that can help you. Your country is on my bucket list, and I hope to get there someday!!!
In regards to your question, do you have a way to post a picture of the cowl area you are refering to? There are some piano type hinges out there that can be adapted to both the hood and the cowl, but on the ones I have done (on '37 bodies) we grafted a slice from the later cowls(with the center to fit the hinge) on the '37 cowl and it worked fine. Also have gl***ed a piano type hinge on to a fibergl*** hood to fit the later steel bodies.

Hi Guys - thanks for your help - have posted on to the main board plus some photos.
As for History - been a hot rod fan forever, built a number of kits mainly lotus 7 type stuff, since being in NZ have build a 34 3 window ford, total restore on a 55 F100 running a 46o big block and the Willys is the latest project. And still learning ...............
