It has been another nice week here on the Plains of Kansas. I have had a good time driving the back roads and taking photos of things that I find interesting. Sometimes those things include old cars and trucks which I share with you guys from time to time. We have had some rainy weather which I am thankful for too.
Monday was a good day for me and I stopped at a Kansas State University Experimental Test Farm Plot to take photos of a cool season crop not otherwise grown in KS. It is canola or rape seed used to produce vegetable oil. It was a pretty scene on this day after Easter...

Further down the road I saw this nice old barn on an abandoned farmstead. There was other neat stuff to see around there too.

Quite a few miles down the road later that same day I saw this old truck...
It was a 46 Chevy 1.5 ton with a John Deere chuck wagon box on it for feeding silage to cows.

Then I was going past a farm and saw this nice old 30-31 Ford Model AA truck next to a house but no one was home...

and after some time I rolled into the town where my friend Louise owns an upholstery shop. Her husband Harry is wizard123 on the HAMB and they are great folks to hang out with at KKOA and Stray Kat events...
We had a nice visit and I looked at her projects which included some seasonal work on boats and so forth.

Paul, some day I want to just do a ride-along with you on one of these delivery runs you make. I know we've got a lot of sweet old iron hidden in Kansas, but there seems to be more of it out towards you than there is here on the sunrise end of the state.

Also worth noting is the fact I cover perhaps 250-350 miles in one day so it is spread out over alot of countryside...

I also liked these old buildings including a wooden water tank tower, hand cranked blacksmith forge blower, and an outhouse with a "skylight"...

Pov, love this stuff bro, now that is a flower BED! Two Econ pu's in one day, sorry pal, over the limit. That blacksmith forge is really cool. Wifey likes the look of the skylight outhouse and we might be putting one in ours. Thanx for sharing your daily treks with us, lookin forward to Salina already! ~sololobo~

I think it's cool that you find all of these beautiful things out in the country. Cars, buildings, machinery, and of course great folks! People always say "you can snooze thru flat boring Kansas". They don't know what they're missing. Thanks for the trip!

  27. I wish I had time to come out and take a ride with you. That looks like a nice, relaxing time...something I get very little of here in Dallas.

Hey Flats, sorry I missed you, but as Louise probably told you I had some back surgury recently and was lying down when you must of been at the house. I heard the dog raising cain, but thuoght he was just having a brain fart. By the way, Louise is looking into getting her sign at the shop redone as it's looking pretty ratty, been up since 1999. Hope to see ya in Dewey, Harry.

Harry, your brave dog "Clayton" only barked once when I knocked on the door. He seems well trained. I will catch you at Dewey for sure.
