502/ 454 BBC question???

Will standard 454 style BBC heads bolt onto a 502 block? Or will a 502 block req it's own style heads?

They changed the deck surface in the early 90s when they quit making the Mark IV and started the Gen V (and the 502). So the year of the parts is more important than the displacement.

What exactly do you have?

 

Mark IV heads will work on VI block

Go get the right gasket and bolt them on. Fel-pro I think has one and cometic also.

 

The 8.1 496 production engine in the Suburbans and others Mark V is the odd duck, all metric and LS style ports, no key for the balancer, a lot of really odd stuff.
