Short Wheelbase Drag Cars, RED, FED

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dubbzilla, Apr 13, 2012.

  1. I couldn't find a thread for these types of cars, so lets start one.

I'm really wanting to build a short wheelbase, vintage inspired drag car. I'm not sure which way to go, front or rear engine. Looking for inspiration.

    :D

I vote for the gas/fuel altered.

    A 96" wheel base and lots-O-motor........

I've started one this spring with a '23 T body and turtle deck. I'm working front to back with the ch***is and I'm about to start bending tubing for the cage. Mine will have a 106" WB though.

I bought it cheap in 2010, their still out there!

The hunt is it what I like.

Just found out today, that my 292 .060 (283) with a hand welded crank (to make it a 302 crank, before the 302 was ever made) making it 307? he then said, that it had the first 10lbs light weight flywheel built by Shaffer & raced at Pomona Dragways, then same guy went oval track racing in a sprint car, then it was put in his pickup and driven to Fargo, ND. where he had move too, then pulled it, sold it to a circle track guy, in Moorhead, MN. then again to another racer that I then I bought it from to put in my 1957 stockcar too cruse town with. Talk about an engine that could! It blows my mined.

I may push "Alley Oop" outside today for the first time in 2012, last run 50 years ago. Check out the Lyndwood social group here on the HAMB for more Lyndwood rail photos. Bob

Thanks, It ran as a B/D on aviation gas back in the day, held the National Record for a week or two in 1961 I believe, was the Dover Drag strip Pepsi Points winner with a bunch of Low ET's back in the day. Bob:)

Mike Wagner at Cornfield Customs is bending up new ones from Ch***is Research TE 440 plans. He's on here. There is at least one build thread I know of that's using his ch***is. Does really nice work and is reasonably priced too
