Are you talking of the brand OLD SCHOOL FLAKE??? If you are I totally disagree with these guys. My painter said it was the best Flake he has sprayed in a long time and he has been paintin motorcycles for years. One of the guys in our car club just built a full on lowrider and had it painted in Heavy Shifty Green Flake and won best paint at the car show this past spring. I have Dark Purple Flake on my roof of my 53 and it was from Old School Flake and I am very happy with it, no blotchiness whatsoever. I think that problems may stem from people not used to spraying flake or something perhaps. Sure it takes a lot of clear and wetsanding to bury it smooth, but its heavy flake, you will always use lots of clear to bury heavy flake, that just comes with the territory.
I sprayed some flames with the shifty green...look killer but they really stood up and took a lot of clear to bury..but then again I didn't really know what I was doing and didn't lay down a good clear tack coat first..i think that may have helped the flake lay down better.
as for the lack of experience comment above it actually experience that makes me say it's ****. the reason it takes an *** load of clear to level it is because it stands on end horribly as mentioned by multiple people who spray 'flake on a very regular basis. good flake does not do that badly good flake "lays" for you if applied properly. don't get me wrong i'm not on HOK's nut eitehr as i've had experiences with their stuff to but not many and i've used alot of it. only "heavy" 'flake ive ever used and had zero problems with is Glowble by metalflake brand. that **** is fun...ken....

In response to those who think i have not used it myself or something i shot a toolbox in black and covered it in purple flake flames and i didnt mind using it at all. I would use it again right away especially for the cost as gettin flake to canada always ends up being a small fortune and the costs of OSF made it far more reasonable to use then other brands. I have sold several jars of OSF and nobody has come back to me having problems with it so I would feel it is to each their own with their preferences. Not knocking anybody's opinions, i just like it. Its like you go to some body shops and they dont shoot ppg colors as they say its ****py, but yet a lot of the top cars are painted with it, it goes with whatever one is more used to using i guess.

kruzer, seriously listen to me and donnie and if you've never spray any metalflake brand flake watch ebay and when you see it come up as it does regularly buy it. it'll be like finding a whole new religion or something. esp if you luck up and get yourself some glowble. it's the big **** so i hope you've got a gun with a nice size tip. they've been around forever for a reason. i totally agree with the brand opinions theory but as i and donnie both said the common main problem is the not cut completely thing and it has been pretty wildly seen. and for their flake gun everyone i know who has tried it says it just gets a ****load of flake everywhere. i'm not brand picky on much i'll use whatever for whatever reason except i don't like dupont for personal reasons which is dumb because i think Nason kicks *** for a lowline paint. HOK i could take or leave and most people i know don't want to spray anything else. sooooooo. but seriously try and find yourself some glowble and have a little fun with it you'll see the difference. and think of it this way if other stuff lays better and takes even a little less clear then you actually save money by using it over the cheaper flake right. alot of your local boat places sell metalflake brand. a good place to check...ken....
Hi. I know this is an old thread, but would like to ask if anyone has used TCP global Kustom shoppe flake? I have been told 1.7 tip for .015 flake? How much would be needed to do an old willys coupe? Also have been told 1oz per qt of clear? How many coats of flake are applied or is this painter's preference? I want to use a darker blue over a black base. http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/ksflake.aspx
