On DesertCruisers.com it states that it is postponed until the 21st. http://desertcruisers.com/index.php?page=eventinfo&id=6023
why is it delayed? because of the wind? I plan to go anyway too. There is a show in Springerville next Sat anyway.
Yeah, there were tons of cars there yesterday. Many doing burnouts and giving the cops fits. Central ave is a public street and the promoter cannot just 'cancel' an open area event like that. She cancelled, and thus screwed herself, by not having her set up and getting her fees and vendors in the parking lot. So many people had planned to go and you just cannot change things like that on short notice. That was poor judgement. Just because of some wind and a modest chance of rain ( which did not happen ). I did not hear one person there complaining about the weather. anyway, I enjoyed myself but, Central is just not the same with that stinking rail line. My understanding is the promotor has rescheduled her event for next Saturday.
As a long time ago central cruiser, Id move it to 7 ave between Osborn and camelback. Hell McDonalds is gone, you cant trun around at the library anymore. too many long street lights, and a train
Lets revive metro center or some other back in the day cruise spot and have a monthly cruise or even weekly cruise.
I laughed my *** off while leaving the po-po in a cloud of tire smoke, but that was fairly mild compared to some of the antics we saw. Good times but now that we did it for free, who's gonna show up next weekend to pay $10?
That was a pretty respectable burnout, then I saw the cop drive through the smoke. You are one lucky guy. If it was me he would probably be just finishing writing me up.
The Maverick had a hissy fit this morning on the way out to the Nostalgia drags, but I'm going to try to get everything ship shape for tonight.
What a bunch of ****! One lane closed, police every twenty and no one is allowed to put a chair on the sidewalk, WTF? Then Phoenix PD lines up their SUV's right in front of the spectators that have been corralled into the parking lot for thier safety. Another great time bites the dust because we need to be kept safe from ourselves.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Thanks for ruining another one Phoenix pd. We should cruise 7th ave next year in protest of the central cruise
So... A couple of the guys and I were talking as we watched the police and the show promoters kick everybody out, Why don't we just go out and cruise Central? We don't need to have a big organized show date - let's just do this as we did 20 years ago and show up on say Saturday night and hit the McDonalds, or Jack in the Box, or where ever? Take care of the squirrels ourselves like the old days too... What say you Phoenix H.A.M.B.ers? I even have the perfect adress for the meeting point 68 e. Hoover...
Chip, thats what I was saying about reviving metro center or some other place. Yeah its cool to have the burnouts without repercussion by the man, but when your limited to a single lane and have to go home by a certain time because they want to get home then its time we take action and put something unofficially officially organized for our hobby. See you Saturday night.
I don't either! The further problem is the corruption of the word "cruise"... It used to be about cruising down central and having a good time. It was about setting up races (leaving the area to do them) and seeing what the other guys were putting together. Now, the term cruise has changed to a three ring circus centered around cars... What the hell? It's time to call a night our night to use our road to do the things we want to do. Make sense? How about Saturdays?
I agree, it was more fun last week without all the cops. Just another fine example of pure revenue generation and big-brother bull-$?@&.
The only problem with that Jeff is that Mel's is a breakfast and lunch joint only. We do all go to breakfast there once a month after the So-Cal second Saturday get together about 9:00am or so... Join us!
I used to cruise central until the cops "closed it down" then everyone went to mill ave in Tempe. So their finest decided to pull the lap tops out and sit in the middle of the road and ticket you if you went down Mill 3 times or more. Public roads?????
I'm all for a real "cruise" - I love driving my car. Sitting in a lawn chair behind it in a parking lot drives me crazy.
Well, lets do it then! How about Sarurday nights? After dark, of course. That's the other thing that makes me nuts with the formal cruise on Central, why in hell would you show to a cruise spot at 10:00am on a 103 degree day? Cruising before dark is just wrong! How could you possibly remember Link Wray's "Jack the Ripper" rattling through your walkmans headphones while driving your hot rod (or dare I say dropped, mid 11 second street bug!) in broad daylight?!?! Much like *** with a less than beautiful woman, some things are just better in the dark!
I can't wait to get my car back on the road for just that reason, cruising. If I'm going to get a ticket for my locker making my tires squeak while going around corners then I might as well do a big smoky burnout...
