Had a Camaro with a 250ci (More or less) 6, split manifold, dual carbs and dual "Purple Hornies" back in 1970/71.
The 250 wasn't the modern one. It was a built up "Blue Flame 6" from a 57.
a Chevy 6 with split manifold and duals sounds a lot like a hopped up flatty.

Ok i know i will catch hell about this but on my 50 i put a set of fenton headers and two flow masters and i tell you from outside the car it sounds like a v8

  3. I had a cherry bomb on my Falcon. It was as close to the engine as possible. Stock manifold with a single pipe. It was loud but everyone said it sounded like a UPS truck. I think a split manifold with dual straight 1.5 inch pipes would sound best.

I once had a 64 Nova wagon with a built 250. It had Clifford headers, double 3 split, 3 stock carbs on home-made independent intakes, Clifford cam, 194 head for compression and 1.94/1.50 valves.

I had 1 3/4 pipe to dual long gl***packs just before the rear axle, then 2" pipe over the axle to the rear bumper. True duals, no crossover. Was fairly quiet at idle and reasonable at cruise, really rapped out good when I revved it up.

I had my stock manifold split and blocked. For the pipes I ran 2" straight pipes all the way out the back. To me thats the best sound.
