She packed up her bags and she took off down the road! Two women packing for four days in this limited space was nothing short of a miracle! Thank goodness Tanya has short legs! What's that stuff on the car? No wipers but I had Rain-x'd Lets roll! Started to overheat as soon as we hit highway speeds. Pit stop on the side of 45 in a not so nice area. As luck would have it there was a policeman setting within sight! Guess we burped some air out at the higher rpm's. We let it cool down, filled it back up and decided to try again. We made it through Houston and he was running a little hot but ok. I love this road! We met up with Bill in Hempstead and I didn't even run out of gas! Stopped in Elgin for a photo that I always wanted! Starting having clutch issues just prior the Beyersville- had to minimize shifting. I could see Tim "Junior Stock", Denise, and Mike "Earl Shieb" ahead of me just before we got there. Made it! My new best friend - Norm! Cookies and Beer - Yummy! The food was outstanding. Thanks Meatheads! The best beans I have ever eaten. Someone said Javier made them. Coleslaw and sausage were so good! And I was sucking down some ice tea! Tim and Denise Bill and Denise The band was thumpin! One of my favorites there. I wanted to hear this fire up and missed it! .
Part two - working on it. Lost it! Crap! I've lost it twice now WTF! Ok, time the head to Billy's for Thirsty Thursday! Tuffy won't crank. I have a bad spot on the starter, so I put in gear and here is Tim, Mike, Denise and Tanya rocking him until he fired up. We headed for Billys! Made it there and adjusted the clutch. This was the highlight of my trip right here! Poor guy had flown home from Europe the morning before, slept an hour, packed and flew to Austin. I heard so many cool stories. We talked flatheads, Bonneville and Muroc. I hogged him and I don't feel guilty! I was on a crash study course and I was learning everything I could! Stay with me guys, still working on it Made it back to Austin and headed to Homeslice Pizza! Went to bed early cause I needed to figure out the clutch Friday morning. Actually woke up at 3am thinking it over. Finally decided it had to be the clutch fork out of place. I knew when I fabbed up the slave it was misaligned a little but had to go with it due to room. Ok, went back to sleep and sure enough that was it. Lucky for me, it slid right back in place and no future issue! Packet pickup and swap meet! My score Lunch break! Can't keep Tanya out of a picture! Back to Congress and over to Doc's. Called Kelli who told us that Eric Tessmer was playing besides Jo's. Has to be one of my favorite blues players. Yahoo! Eric's truck "Olive" Eric - if you've never heard him - your missing it! Groupies - me, Kelli, Tanya and Bill. Note Kelli's chicken purse. Reminded me of Casey's chicken in his car. Got up early Saturday - the big day! Started out to Expo center and Tuffy started to get hot, but the clutch is good! Pit stop, got a new radiator cap that fixed things. Made it out there, got parked and guess what I forgot - the camera - not one picture I know, what a let down! The place was packed. Left early this morning as the rain was supposed to blow in and I have already experienced slicks hitting rain and antifreeze and it gave me a big pucker factor. Tuffy did great comming home and the rear spring had settled making the trip a lot better. I found the camera in my jacket pocket when I got home! Home again, home again, jiggity, jiggity, jig!
Cool, a great road trip story with what looks like a great time at Roundup. Keep the photos and story coming.
Looks like ol' Gene hasn't lost his touch with the ladies ! Cool road trip, nice to see that old hot rod back at it. I always liked that car. Don
I went on Friday. Came home Friday too as I have to work. Really wished I'd seen Tuffy. I remember you dropping off and picking up the rear end from Danny. One of these days I'll see Tuffy.
Kathy, I just want you to know I am proud of you. This has been a long journey and you have dome more than most have dreamed of....
Wow, so cool to spend quality time with Gene. You're at the top of the Hot Rod Ladies role model heap Kathy. Still hoping one of my girls will show some interest some day. And when they do . . . girls, meet Kathy!
Great job and great story with a cool car. I had the pleasure meeting you and to see Tuffy when I bought the T sedan from you. Had a great time. I finished my 51 and I got to take it to the roundup. On to the T sedan now it's been waiting on me for a long time!
