I bought four 5 spoke mags with the 5 x 5 1/2" bolt pattern at a yard sale recently and I was looking for someone to I.D. them. They are all the same brand of wheel, two of them are 15 x 7 and two of them are 15 x 8 1/2. All four have 3" backspacing. The only marking is a "B" on each wheel inside of the spokes. I already did a "D/A" sander restoration on them and they came out really nice:
Every vintage Torq Thrust that I have ever had, has had "American Racing" cast in the back of the wheel in raised letters, so I believe that they are not Torqs.
It is hard to find wheels like this with the 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern anymore. I keep looking at swap meets and all I see is later Ford/chevy patterns. You may never find out what brand they are because back then everyone was on the wheel bandwagon........Sears, Montgomery Wards, JC Penny, etc. Wheel companies were private labeling wheels for those companies sometimes with minor differences (like smooth spoke Raders for Sears) and with no identifying markings. Those wheels could be from one of those companies. Don
I know, I have never seen four of them with that bolt pattern in the same place, let alone two 7's and two 8 1/2's.
All I ever find at garage sales are velvet Elvis paintings and broken vases. You did real good. Years ago I had a set of perfect original Raders with that bolt pattern and I let them go with a 47 Ford I sold to move to Florida. Boy would I love to have those now, or yours, for that matter. Don
I also found a pair of really nice 15 x 10 Keystone Kl***ics with the 5 x 5 1/2" bolt pattern at a different yard sale about a month ago. I know the Keystones are not HAMB friendly (or are they) but they are staring to grow on me. I wake up after having dreams of building a 70's van with those wheels on it.
I would say they are U.S. wheels. See the edge of the hub, it has a kind of scooped sharp edge. I have a pair like that. If it doesn't say Torq Thrust, then it's a copy cat. It doesn't really matter who made it. When it's on the car they look great!
My sentiments exactly. I'd prefer to have the original Americans but as long as they are close to the American look I can live with them. My 15x6 cheap 2 piece steel and aluminum clone. I am limited to 6" wide rims which are very hard to find in 15". I have no idea who made them nor do I really care.
hi there i believe these are Crestline wheels from walnut ca... they look just like mine i bought at the pomona swapmeet for use on my custom 1966 vw convertible. mine are 15x6.5 with a ford 5-1/2 in bolt pattern. my wheels have Crestline walnut ca cast in the back if the ribs but that could have been remove over time hope that helps. i am looking for a 15x4 or5 in wheel with the ford 5-1/2 pattern as a spare
I WANT THEM FOR MY 64 F-100 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... I will trade you 4 new Wheel Vintique SMOOTHIES....... oh did I say please?
Here's the link... http://www.torquethrustcentral.com/ Click on, "Other Brands" There's a pic of the Int Dragmaster and U.S. wheel. Looks identical to yours.
I have a set like those on my ****ty old truck. The two back ones are Appliance, the two fronts have no markings whatsoever. The 5 1/2 pattern is a double edged sword....Nobody wants em because of the big pattern, but there will always be a few guys who NEED em because of the big pattern. My advise is to build something with the big pattern or ship them off to someone who needs em. They won't give a **** what brand they are. Nice score, -Abone.
