is there such a thing as balancing the wide 5 hub with the rim? .... i have a really nasty death wobble going on
This adapter on Ebay should work for you http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALUMINUM-WIDE-5-WHEEL-BALANCING-ADAPTOR-/130681697543?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1e6d3c7507#ht_500wt_1361
There sure is. The adapter posted is what you use to get them on a balancer. Speedway sells them also. I made mine out of some aluminum.
You have two thread going. Here the same answer from the other one. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=685916&highlight=balance+speedway
I have an old bear spin balancer that came with 2 adaptor plates with lots of lug patterns and 2 cone adaptors like on a brake lathe to mount the hub and wheel. it takes a while to get a tire balanced but does a good balance.
i have a plate made with the bolt pattern in it . tire was balanced but still got a wobble . any ideas ?
I'm fortunate to have access to a Hunter balancer with a road force ****yzer. Sometimes, it is possible to better match a wheel and tire to eliminate vibrations. I highly recommend going this route. They do a great job of pinpointing problems.
Terms are vague. What is the lowest road speed that it starts this "death wobble"? I've been in two rods in the last 40 years, that the wobble started at less than 10mph. In those cases, wheel balance is not the cause, because the rotation speed is way too low to be caused by an imbalance.
tires r good .see i had them on there not balanced and it wobbled some . i got the tires balanced and it got worse .so i took the wieghts and it was still way worse than before .... thats what makes me think that maybe the hubs are off balance ?
Its been awhile since I actually had any wheels balanced but there used to be a couple of tire shops here with the old spin balancers that did the wheels "on the car". You get the hub and wheel/tire all in one shot.?????? Shot in the dark?
If this is on the front, jack up each wheel and give it a spin and see what it looks like. Make up something quick and dirty, a piece of steel whatever sandwiched between 2 bricks to act as a pointer. Get it close to the wheel and see what the run out is. If that looks reasonable, move the pointed to the tire and give it a spin. Once you rule out a bent wheel or bum tire, you can either get them balanced on the car or maybe some tire-truing is needed first. Bob
