I'm not at the point of being ready to have the upholstery done in my 53, and the seats aren't in BAD condition (no more than what would be expected from a 60 year old car, anyway), so I was wondering if anyone knew, or makes, custom fit seat covers for a 53 Chevy 4-door? I don't need anything fancy, some simple black vinyl covers with a drawstring or something around the bottom, but I can't seem to find ANYTHING ANYWHERE! Anyone?
Why not make them? It isn't hard. You can sew them on a home sewing machine. Pick up a book on upholstery and slip covers from the library and have a go. You can buy the material at your local sewing shop for a fraction of the cost of seat covers and have better quality material to boot.
If I had a sewing machine I MIGHT even try it. I saw some "acceptable" vinyl out at Hobby Lobby, of all places, and it did cross my mind. Hell, I'll bet with a little practice I could even come up with something nice enough that I wouldn't be in any rush to replace with professional upholstery! But, alas, no sewing mo-chine. What's a library? (LOL)
I bought a sewing machine at the thrift store for $7 with this very idea in mind. Perhaps a trip to goodwill would help!
Not a bad idea. I think I will! D'ja ever get yours done? Hey, how's the ol' VA Beach doing? I miss the **** out of some Har**** Larry's! Used to be at that joint twice a week, EVERY week!
I did a PONTIAC a couple of years ago, got a set from a company in NC. I cant find the name now, but they were great, you picked colrs & material and they fit.
