It's off of the '41 sedan. The fan came off the water pump and made this nice gash. New radiators are $400-$500. Hoping i can get it repaired for much less.
Thanks, there is a local shop that is suppose to be cl***ic car friendly but i figured i would check here before i brought it in.
I looked for a replacement at the Portland Swap Meet but all i found was a totally rusted out original. My new water pump with pulley is on back order so i guess i have plenty of time.
There might be some truth to this. I have had a variety of experience with radiator shops charging from very reasonable rates to an arm and a leg. Hope your shop is more of the former, and less of the latter!
The price for cores has gone nuts in the last few years. I had the same problem and had to pay 550 bucks to get a 34 Ford radiator recored. I had a hell of a time finding a radiator shop that could or would recore it. I found a new one cheaper but due to the thicker core, I couldn't use it without major alterations. I just closed my eyes turned my head to the left and coughed.
Why fix it ..There are a number of companies making iexpensive aluminum ones..My son just bought a new aluminum fully welded one for his 50 Dodge on E-bay for only 135.00!!
I went through a similiar deal with my 35 Ford Radiator. I took it to a radiator shop here in Nashville and they claimed it was not repairable but quoted me $900.00 to $1,200 for a new one, I p***ed. I called Br***works and ordered a 4 core OG style for $620.00, took 4 weeks. Its a very nice looking heavy product but I havn't installed it yet.
It appears that the real damage is to the bottom header and tank and not the core. If that's the case, a competent shop should be able to remove the bottom tank, repair the header and the tank and re***emble it. In the "good old days" that would be routine.
I'd rather support a local radiator shop then a cheap offshore knock-off company. Try getting it fixed!
I wish you lived in my neighborhood....but in the real world.............when the labor cost is more than the item is worth its like force feeding a dead race horse....
View attachment 1624027 Got it fixed for $120. Lots better then the $500 for new. Not pretty but works great.
oh no, it is not show perfect - no plastic trophies for you - Ha! good that you found a place to repair it.
