Hi everyone new to the forum enjoy thus far and hope to get to know many others. need help on my 1957 chevy wants to change the rear end. want a 9'' ford rear end.
Welcome! Most all of the reputable rear end builders (Moser, Currie, Etc.) offer "stock replacement housing" rear ends that are a bolt-in swap for your Chev. with all brackets and the proper width to replace your stock rear. The thing you need to decide 1st. is are you going to change width, or tub for a larger tire size or modify suspension. If you haven't made those decisions yet, you'll probably find plenty of threads here that will help you-
Welcome from Kansas. 5Wcoupe has it right...My son and I are working on my 57 bel air and he bought me a Currie "hot rod" rear end. It is essentially a 9-inch replacement housing for the stock chevy rearend with all stock brackets - I am not moving springs or tubbing, just some calvert racing replacement springs and caltrac bars - calvertracing.com. I like the idea of having a internal rear-pinion support for the gear-end of the pinion - it limits gear deflection under high torque (aka smokin the hides) If you already are familiar with both rearends, skip this link, but if you want to compare a 9-inch with a 12-bolt, this is one of several good google responses for "compare 9 inch and 12 bolt" http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/0304_9_inch_12_bolt_rearend_comparison/index.html Enjoy the H.A.M.B Willy P
